Donald England

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Central Presbyterian Church for Donald Linklater England of Eugene. He died April 18 of a post-operative stroke at age 83. A reception will follow the service.

England was born March 27, 1924, in Westimber, Ore. He married Katherine Sutherland on Sept. 14, 1946, in Berkeley, Calif.

A graduate of the University of Oregon, he graduated from the university's medical school in 1947. He completed his internship in Pittsburgh and his residency in Baltimore.

He worked as a primary care physician in internal medicine, starting at the Eugene Clinic in 1953, and retired from his practice in 1999. He then worked with Radiant Research on clinical drug trials for five years. He served in the Army in Japan during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janet Stahnke of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Barbara Fisher of Eugene; two sons, Jim of Springfield and John of Beaverton; a brother, David of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Lillian McSweeney of Berkeley; and eight grandchildren.

Hazel Gourley

FLORENCE - A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Florence Evangelical Church for Hazel M. Gourley of Florence. She died April 12 at age 88. The family chose not to list the cause of death.

She was born July 2, 1918, in Yachats. She married Bob Gourley on April 16, 1938, in Yachats.

She worked as a cook at Western Lane Hospital.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, John of Pomerene, Ariz., and Chuck of Olympia; four grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Anne Hall

The graveside funeral will be at 2 p.m. today, April 20, at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene for Anne Amanda Hall of Eugene, who died April 17 of age-related causes. She was 97.

She was born Dec. 12, 1909, in Portland to Richard and Wilhelmina Engel Neuners. She married Everett Hall on Feb. 16, 1936, in Vancouver, Wash.

She graduated from high school and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Deines of Eugene and Nancy Bjeletich of Cupertino, Calif.; two sons, Norman of Denmand Island, B.C., and David of Milpitas, Calif.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her husband died June 21, 2004.

Nicholas Kowalko

COTTAGE GROVE - A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 28 at Riverside Community Church of God in Cottage Grove for Nicholas K. Kowalko of Cottage Grove, who died April 16 of age-related causes. He was 88.

Kowalko was born Oct. 13, 1918, in Marlin, Poland, to Kuprian and Fedosia Kowalko. He married Katie Burkart on July 18, 1947, in Portland.

He attended Alberta Bible Institute in Camrose, Alberta, and received a bachelor of theology degree from Warner-Pacific College in Portland in 1948. Since 1967, he served as a minister for Church of God congregations in Springfield and Cottage Grove. He was a field evangelist for the Western Canadian Mission Board for one year, and planted and served as pastor of a church in Medicine Hat, Alberta, from 1949 to 1956.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth of Oakridge and Dale of Eugene; three sisters, Alexandra Schindel of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, Bernice Grob of Cleveland and Lena Warkentin of Sidney, B.C.; a brother, Victor of Erwood, Saskatchewan; two grandchildren and four great-grand- children.

Arrangements by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. Burial will be at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the church or Hospice of Sacred Heart.

Betty Miller

Betty Ann Miller of Eugene died April 15 of age-related causes at age 78. A private service is planned.

Miller was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Somerset, Mass., to Ernst and Dorothy Walsh. She married Kenneth Miller on April 28, 1948, in New Orleans.

She graduated from Fall River High School in Fall River, Mass. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Lloyd of Eugene and Scott of Las Vegas; two daughters, Pamela Darcy of Springfield and Melanie Bennett of Eugene; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A son, Dean Miller, died previously.

Catherine Peterson

SPRINGFIELD - The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home for Catherine Diane Peterson of Springfield, who died April 17 of diabetes at age 60. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

She was born Nov. 2, 1946, in Portland to William and Lucille Stith Welch. She married James Peterson on Jan. 25, 1979, in Reno, Nev.

She worked as an in-home caregiver for many years.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Don Haney of Springfield and Rod Haney of Eugene; a sister, Sharon Welch of Junction City; and 10 grandchildren.

Burial will be in Springfield Memorial Gardens.


The Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at St. Peter's Catholic Church for Betty Ruth Wrightman of Eugene, who died April 18 of age-related causes. She was 80.

Among her survivors are a son, Gary of New Plymouth, Idaho, and a daughter, Barbara Wrightman Doe of Veneta. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
