Kenneth Asbra

Kenneth Joseph Asbra of Eugene died Aug. 11 of age-related causes. He was 89. A private family celebration is planned.

He was born April 17, 1918, in Wynot, Neb., to Steve and Mary Bergman Asbra. He married Dorothy Ashby Dorothy Ashby (born August 6, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, died April 13, 1986 in Santa Monica, California) was an African American jazz harpist and composer.

Critic Scott Yannow writes, "There have been very few jazz harpists in history and Dorothy Ashby was one of the greats.

, in a horse cavalry unit and later in a ski unit in Europe. He worked as a truck driver for Vernon Livestock in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  until his retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Kent Asbra of Eugene and Ronnie Dickson of Mason Neck, Va.; a daughter, Sandra Pietrusiewicz of Pasco, Wash.; two sisters, Valerine Beckman of Sioux Falls Sioux Falls, city (1990 pop. 100,814), seat of Minnehaha co., SE S.Dak., on the Big Sioux River; settled 1856, inc. as a village 1877, as a city 1883. Settlers abandoned the site in 1862 because of Native American raids, but with the establishment (1865) of Fort , S.D., and Mary Anne Habor of Daly City, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren. His wife died Aug. 28, 1987.

Inurnment will be in Willamette National Cemetery Willamette National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery in Clackamas County, Oregon, about 10 miles southeast of the city of Portland, Oregon. It encompasses 269.4 acres, and as of the end of 2005, had 126,561 interments.  in Portland. Arrangements by England's Eugene Memorial Chapel.

Robert Blair

Robert H. Blair of Eugene died July 29 of age-related causes at age 91. A memorial service will be later in Astoria.

He was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Astoria to John and Hilda Takalo Blair. He married Cilvia Winters in Longview, Wash.

He worked as a log scaler, timber buyer and accountant in the forest industry in Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook, Lane and Douglas counties in Oregon and in British Columbia.

Survivors include three sons, John and Eugene, both of Eugene, and Roger of Astoria; a brother, Philip of Astoria; a sister, Nancy Flint of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. His wife died in November 1998. Arrangements by All Cremation cremation, disposal of a corpse by fire. It is an ancient and widespread practice, second only to burial. It has been found among the chiefdoms of the Pacific Northwest, among Northern Athapascan bands in Alaska, and among Canadian cultural groups.  Service of Eugene.

Lane Layton

A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Blue Mountain Park in Cottage Grove for Lane Layton of Oregon City, formerly of Cottage Grove and Lowell. She died Aug. 7 of cancer at age 49.

Layton was born Jan. 23, 1958, in Grinnell, Iowa. She married Mike Layton in 1991. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; her mother, of Cottage Grove; two children, Colby Vaughn and Rebel Vaughn, both of Portland; two sisters, Rebel Jones of Portland and Pamela Jones of Battle Ground, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Christopher McCawley

Christopher A. "Chris" McCawley of Eugene died Aug. 5 of heart failure. He was 36. No service is planned.

He was born March 19, 1971, in Florence to Shirley Price and Allen McCawley.

McCawley had a high school education and worked in recreational vehicle production.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Nicholson of Conroe, Texas; his father, of Pennsylvania; a son, Christian of Veneta; and a sister, Kimberly Kahler of Huffman, Texas.

John Mills

John L. "Johnny" Mills of Eugene died Aug. 13 of complications from diabetes. He was 70.

He was born May 1, 1937, in Seattle to J. Leslie and Ruth Mills.

Mills served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He worked as a taxi cab driver cab·driv·er also cab driver

Rosa Montes-Lopez

Rosa Montes-Lopez of Eugene died Aug. 14 of heart failure. She was 62.

She was born Sept. 4, 1944, in Colima, Mexico, to Rafael Montes mon·tes

 Garcia and Elena Lopez Velasco. She married Pedro Torres Rodriguez in April 1963 in Colima.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; five sons, Pedro Montes of Roseburg, Efren Montes, Marcos Montes and Javier Montes, all of Springfield, and Rafael Montes of Eugene; three daughters, Silvia Montes of Colima, Carmen Carmen

Mel Price Jr.

Milbert Franklin "Mel" Price Jr. of Eugene died Aug. 14 of age-related causes. He was 98.

He was born March 3, 1909, in Kirby, Mont., to Milbert and Sophia Kollmar Price. He married Ada Joyner on May 28, 1994.

Price attended high school in Sunnyside, Wash., and graduated from Washington State College school of journalism in 1931.

He worked for Lane Publishing Company in Los Angeles, for the Oregon Journal in Portland and a weekly newspaper in Grants Pass before founding the Rogue River Record. He started work for Shelton-Turnbull Printing Company in 1948 and in 1955 became a major interest holder in the firm. He retired in 1973.

Survivors include his wife; a son, M. Lee of Seattle; a daughter, Jacquelyn "Jacque" Morgan of Springfield; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Three former wives, Helen Price, Marie Price and Lucile Nichols Price, died previously.

No service is planned. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to The Salvation Army.

Mona Sherman

 funeral was held Aug. 10 at Neveh Zedek Cemetery in Portland for Mona P. Sherman of Portland, formerly of Eugene, who died Aug. 9 of Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia.  and congestive heart failure congestive heart failure, inability of the heart to expel sufficient blood to keep pace with the metabolic demands of the body. In the healthy individual the heart can tolerate large increases of workload for a considerable length of time. . She was 87.

She was born March 16, 1920. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Morris and Rachel Colish Wiseman. She married Louis Sherman on Nov. 16, 1941, in Winnipeg. He died April 23, 2001.

She studied home economics at the University of Manitoba Location
The main Fort Garry campus is a complex on the Red River in south Winnipeg. It has an area of 2.74 square kilometres. More than 60 major buildings support the teaching and research programs of the university.

Rita Vancil

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene for Rita Marie Vancil of Eugene. She died Aug. 14 of age-related causes at age 81. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the church.

Vancil was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Illinois to Gerald and Gertrude Garthaus Long. She married Norman Vancil on Oct. 23, 1948, in Mount Sterling, Ill.

She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School St. Mary's Catholic School is a K-8 educational institution located in Richmond, Virginia, serving 400 students. In 2004, St. Marys School won the prestigious Blue Ribbon Award. This award is awarded to few schools and only the ones with the highest academic standards.  in Mount Sterling. She worked for a creamery creamery: see dairying.  in Mount Sterling and was co-owner of Mardots Beauty Salon.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Vancil of Eugene and Dale Vancil of Woodstock, Ga.; a daughter, Joyce Witek of Fallbrook, Calif.; two brothers, Dave Long of Rhode Island Rhode Island, island, United States
Rhode Island, island, 15 mi (24 km) long and 5 mi (8 km) wide, S R.I., at the entrance to Narragansett Bay. It is the largest island in the state, with steep cliffs and excellent beaches.
 and Jim Long of Banning, Calif.; a sister, Margorie Dall, also of Banning; and two grand- children.
