The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley, . She worked as a school teacher in Triangle Lake and the Junction City area for many years. Survivors include a son, Rick of Mapleton; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Cowan of Eugene died April 29 of cancer at age 59. No service is planned. He was born Sept. 21, 1947, in Eugene to Robert and Dorothy Boehringer Cowan. Cowan served in the Army and attended college.
