Alice Bellamy

CRESWELL - The funeral will be Aug. 12 for Alice "Betty" Bellamy of Creswell, who died Aug. 8 of complications related to Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia. . She was 80.

Bellamy was born July 14, 1923, in Spearfish, S.D., to Ellsworth and Ellen Brush.

She married Edward Bellamy Edward Bellamy (March 26 1850 – May 22 1898) was an American author and socialist, most famous for his utopian novel, Looking Backward, set in the year 2000. Early life
Edward Bellamy was born in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts.
 in Lake Tahoe, Nev., on Jan. 14, 1980. She lived in Sherwood and Concord, Calif., before moving to Creswell in 1985.

She was a homemaker and spent many hours transporting the elderly as a volunteer.

Her interests included gardening, fishing, cooking, traveling, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband; a son, David McDaniel David Edward McDaniel (June 16, 1939 - November 1, 1977) was a US science fiction author, who also wrote spy fiction, including several novels based upon the television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E..  of El Rito, N.M., a stepson step·son

England's Creswell Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made organizations conducting research in breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

Ray Benzel Jr.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for Ray "Curly" Benzel Jr. of Yoncalla, who died Aug. 8 of colon cancer colon cancer, cancer of any part of the colon (often called the large intestine). Colon cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in the United States. . He was 52.

Benzel was born Jan. 11, 1951, in Westfir to Ray and Joan Benzel. He married Nancy Cox Nancy Cox is a virologist who works for the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta who works with influenza and bird flu viruses.

She was 57 years old as of 2006 and is a native of Iowa. She appeared in the 2006 Time 100 listing. References

A lifelong Yoncalla resident, he graduated from Yoncalla High School in 1969. He owned Ray Benzel Jr. Excavation since 1976.

He was a member of the Small Woodland Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time on his ranch with family and friends. He was also interested in many types of equipment and antique airplanes.

Survivors include his wife; his parents, Ray and Joan Benzel of Tygh Valley; a daughter, Becky of Cottage Grove; a son, Corey of Yoncalla; four sisters, Judy Hoagland of Creswell, Patsy Richards of Lake Oswego, Teena Shoultz and Sharron Boger, both of Kentucky; one brother, Ed of Yoncalla; and three grandsons.

The celebration of life and inurnment will be held at the family ranch. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ray Benzel Jr. Technical Scholarship at the U.S. Bank Drain branch.

Joseph Sage

COBURG - A memorial service will be held Aug. 12 for Joseph B. Sage of Coburg, who died Aug. 8 of complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) (ā'mīətrōf`ik, sklĭrō`sĭs) or motor neuron disease,  (Lou Gehrig's disease Lou Geh·rig's disease

). He was 75.

Sage was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., to James and Stella Barnes Sage.

He married Fern Smith on June 12, 1949, in Coburg. Sage graduated from Eugene High School after attending night school after he was married. He serve in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years in China and Guam.

Sage worked in various logging occupations before working for Lane County in road construction. He then worked as a foreman for the Bureau of Land Management in the road construction department for 20 years before retiring in December 1987.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and ocean salmon fishing with family and friends. In retirement, he volunteered at the IOOF IOOF

Survivors include his wife; a son, Arlen of Springfield; a daughter, Kathryn Ulm of Coburg; three brothers, Berkley of Wildwood Wildwood, city (1990 pop. 4,484), Cape May co., SE N.J., on an island off Cape May; settled 1882, inc. as a city 1911. It has large commercial fisheries and is a popular summer seaside resort with many vintage motels and other buildings from the 1940s–60s. , Fla., and James and Don, both of Kansas City; two sisters, Hazel Rodrock of Mount Vernon, Mo., and Viola Chastain of Kansas City; five grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.

A daughter, Glenda, died previously.

Tuesday's service will be held at 3 p.m. at Coburg Methodist Church.

Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the IOOF Cemetery.

Earle Inman

A memorial service will be Aug. 12 for Earle Lee Inman of Eugene, who died Aug. 7 of age-related causes. He was 72.

Inman was born Aug. 7, 1931, in Van Nuys, Calif., to Verne and Phyllis Bird Inman.

He married Sherry "Sammie" Nugent, in Mission Hills, Calif., on Nov. 26, 1961. He attended the University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States).  at Los Angeles. Inman served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-54. He worked as a chemist, managed a drug store and as a long-haul trucker after retirement.

His interests included quantum physics, reading the Bible in Greek and Hebrew and trains.

He was also a member of the Alpha Chi Epsilon fraternity at UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
 and a member of Eugene Christian Fellowship.

He lived in Simi Valley, Calif., from 1966 to 1976, before moving to Eugene.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard of Chester, Va., and Loren Popp of Eugene; a daughter, Pixie Inman of Eugene; two brothers, Richard Inman of Simi Valley, Calif., and Gene Nugent of Seattle; and a sister, Sue Studgeon of St. Pete Beach, Fla.

Tuesday's service will be held at 2 p.m. at Eugene Christian Fellowship. Major/Fredericksen Springfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Hospice.
