Ira Klein

Ira Barry Klein of Springfield died June 22 at age 63. The family chose not to list the cause of death. A private service is planned.

He was born July 3, 1943, in Bronx, N.Y., to Seymour and Jillian Schindler Klein. He and his wife, Susan, were married in December 1972 in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden .

Klein received a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley (body, education) University of California at Berkeley - (UCB)

Harry Leuallen

Harry Norman Leuallen of Eugene died June 27 of lung cancer lung cancer, cancer that originates in the tissues of the lungs. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States in both men and women. Like other cancers, lung cancer occurs after repeated insults to the genetic material of the cell. . He was 72. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.

He was born March 25, 1935, in Peoria, Ill., to Harry and Frances Leuallen. He married Jackie Hill on May 19, 1974, in Phoenix, Ariz.

Leuallen served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. He was the owner of Leuallen's Tree and Garden Service.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Gail Love of Kent, Wash., and Erin Leuallen and Eric Leuallen, both of Eugene; three sisters, Barbara Clarkson of Tennessee and Tracy Heuermann and Christine Thornton, both of Peoria; two brothers, Fred of Peoria and Greg of Chicago; and three grandchildren.

Richard W. Thomas

Richard W. Thomas died July 3 of cancer. He was 68. Graveside grave·side

 services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene.

He was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Fort Cobb, Okla., to Willard and Mary Thomas.

He married Carol Ann Garcia on Feb. 15, 1958, in Dunsmuir, Calif.

He lived in the Lane County area for 30 years and was a timber faller and a bus driver for the Springfield School District.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Rick, Tawni Hunt and Carlee Alexander, all of Springfield; a sister, Kathy Williams of Quincy, Calif.; and brothers Jimmy of Reno, Nev., Windell and Billy, both of Redding Redding, city (1990 pop. 66,462), seat of Shasta co., N central Calif., on the Sacramento River; inc. 1872. A principal tourist center for a mountain and lake region, it also has lumbering, food-processing, and diverse manufacturing. , Calif.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Betty Van Devender

Betty Van Devender died June 17 of age-related causes. She was 86. A memorial service will be today at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley, .

She was born June 17, 1921, in Rochester, Minn., to Fred & Etta Wileman. She married Kenneth Van Devender on June 28, 1941, in Cable, Wis. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by three children, Kenneth "Jim" of Keizer, Karen Copeland of Oregon and Kandy Christiansen of Junction City; and a brother, James Wileman of Chicago, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grand- children.
