He was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Eugene, to Joseph and Iva Scott Hayworth. He married Patricia Quinn on March 31, 1950, in Harrisburg. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a lifelong grass seed farmer. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary McDole; a son, Russell; two sisters, Margaret Huston and Ann Harper; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, Robert, died Oct. 16, 1990. Else Baitis Else Gertrud Baitis of Eugene died April 13 of age-related causes at age 82. No service is planned. She was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Klein Peiskerau, Germany. She married Heinrich Baitis on Dec. 22, 1945, in Germany. She was a nurse with the German Red Cross during World War II, worked a large sheep ranch in Creswell and later formed the Henry Baitis Realty and Development Co. in Eugene with her husband. Survivors include two sons, Friedhelm and Hartmut; two daughters, Rosemarie Hoy and Karin Baitis; a sister, Gretel Fritsch; and nine grand- children. He died April 12 of a heart attack at age 68. He was born April 18, 1937, in Odenville, Ala., to Homer and Pearl Waters Manning. He married Sandra Weber in 1962 in Pell City, Ala. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Brenda Manning; three sons, James, Gary and John; a brother, James; and one grandchild. A son, Rocky, died previously. Pauline Smith was born on 2 April 1882 in Oudtshoorn, South Africa, and grew up in the Little Karoo. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today, April 15, at the Presbyterian Church in Halfway for Pauline M. Smith of Halfway, formerly of Lane County, who died April 11 of cancer at age 84. She was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Salem, to Gordon and Bessie Leeds Tower. She married J. Kenneth Smith on June 15, 1946, in Eugene. He died Nov. 13, 2005. Survivors include three daughters, Ellen Smith, Karen Andruss and Lynne Smith; two sons, Dain and Mark; a brother, Eugene Tower; and three grandchildren. A son, Paul, died previously.
