Byline: The Register-Guard

David Metzler

The funeral will be March 24 for David E. Metzler, formerly of Eugene, who died March 18 of cancer. He was 75.

Metzler was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Riverton, Wyo., to Rinehart and Edna Metzler. He married Lena Jo Crownover in November 1950; she died in 1996. He and Corinna Metzler were married in 1998.

He attended high school in Silverton and lived in Eugene for 45 years before moving to Bouse bouse also bowse

, Ariz., in 2002. He worked for American Steel as a truck driver and in the warehouse. He enjoyed hunting, bowling and other family activities.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Char Stutz and Pamela Hanneson, both of Springfield; a son, Brad of Eugene; a brother, James of Springfield; a sister, Pat Young of Eugene; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grand- children.

Friday's service will be at 1 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Gardens. A private burial will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society American Cancer Society,

George Rypinski

George H. "Ryp" Rypinski of Eugene died March 17 of age-related causes. He was 87.

He was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Davis, Calif., to George Sr. and Alice Jones Alice Jones (born Alice Rebecca Jones on 4 March, 1993) in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. She played Katie Rowan in Heartbeat (TV series) when she was three to four years old from 1996-1997 (Although her last episode was shown in 1998).  Rypinski. He married Martha Castleton in Seattle on June 2, 1953. She died Dec. 23, 2005.

Rypinski earned an associate degree from Davis Community College and was a Coast Guard volunteer in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  from 1943 to 1945. He worked as an electrical engineer, petroleum executive and maintenance engineer.

He lived in Davis, Grand Junction Grand Junction, city (1990 pop. 29,034), seat of Mesa co., W Colo., at the junction of the Gunnison and Colorado rivers; inc. 1891. The shipping and processing center of a large ranch and irrigated farm region, it also serves the area's uranium, oil shale, gas, and , Colo., Seattle and San Mateo San Mateo (săn mətā`ō), city (1990 pop. 85,486), San Mateo co., W Calif., on San Francisco Bay; inc. 1894. It is a commercial and retail center with some high-technology manufacturing. San Mateo, Spanish for St. , Calif., prior to moving to Eugene in 1986.

Shooting sport using moving targets. Marksmen use shotguns to shoot at clay targets (pigeons) hurled into the air by spring devices called traps. It differs from trapshooting in that skeet traps are set at two points on the field and targets may be thrown
. He also enjoyed photography and entered photos at the Lane County Fair The Lane County Fair is an annual celebration held in Eugene, Oregon every August featuring food, music and other entertainment. It is held at the Lane County Fairgrounds. .

Rypinski was a member of AA and of the Air and Space Museum.

Survivors include five daughters, Ruth Wilday of Eugene, Paula Raso of Seattle, Irene May and Jean Zamora, both of Grand Junction, and Barbara Castleton of Alameda, Calif.; a sister, June Harrison of Florida; and two grandchildren.

No service is planned. Musgrove Family Mortuary of Eugene is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Eugene Public Library.

Bertha Rathsburg

A memorial service will be held March 24 for Bertha "Bert" Rathsburg of Eugene, who died March 15 at age 86. The family chose not to list a cause of death.

She was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Winona, Mich., to Isaac and Lempi Akerstrom Antilla. She married John Rathsburg in Detroit, Mich.

She graduated from Suomi College in Hancock, Mich., and worked as a secretary. She enjoyed travel, reading, crossword puzzles and playing bridge. She had lived in Eugene for 20 years and was a member of Central Lutheran Church.

Survivors include eight stepchildren. Her husband and two stepchildren died previously.

Friday's service will be at 2 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church in Eugene. Inurnment will be later in Winona. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to music ministry at Central Lutheran Church.
