OBITUARIES.Byline: The Register-Guard Clarence Davis Clarence Eugene Davis (born June 28, 1949 in Birmingham, Alabama) is a former American football running back who played with the National Football League's Oakland Raiders from 1971 to 1978. He was 91. He was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Belt, Mont., to Richard and Adele Fischer Davis. He married Thelma Murray in Southgate, Calif., on June 13, 1938. Davis was educated in Montana, Oregon and California. He was discharged from the California State Guard in April 1946. He worked as a foreman for Jurgensen Steel and as a mechanical engineer at Ameron. He lived in Southgate and Vista, Calif., before moving to the local area 28 years ago. Davis enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was a member of the Crow Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former Grand Knight and member of the fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney. , and was active at St. Jude Catholic Church

Charles Leathers The funeral will be March 4 for Charles Ronald Leathers of Eugene, who died Feb. 22 of age-related causes. He was 78. He was born June 20, 1927, in Winlock, Wash., to Charles "Bob" and Mary "Edith" Benedict Leathers. He graduated from Winlock High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving on the USS Iowa Four ships of the United States Navy have been named USS Iowa in honor of Iowa, the 29th state.
Leathers married Rose Underwood in 1948. They later divorced. He married Marjorie Naomi Cutting in 1978. She died Sept. 17, 1989. Leathers was a letter carrier with the U.S. Post Office U.S. Post Office can refer to the United States Postal Service system. He retired from the Cottage Grove Cottage Grove, village (1990 pop. 22,935), Washington co., SE Minn., near the St. Croix River; inc. 1965. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Smith-Lund-Mills Chapel in Cottage Grove. Saturday's funeral will be at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fir Grove Cemetery. Althea Rife Althea Jean Rife of Eugene died Feb. 17 of age-related causes. She was 86. She was born July 22, 1919, in Moline, Ill., to Oscar and Oma Millen Anderson. She married Duane Rife in Moline on Dec. 20, 1947. He died Jan. 9, 2003. She completed high school in Moline and received her teaching credential in Champlain, Ill. She was an elementary school teacher for 39 years in Illinois, California, Delaware and Oregon. She lived in the local area for 30 years. Rife loved to travel with her husband, visiting Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Germany and England. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with family. Survivors include two sons, Jon of Eugene and Jim of Loma Rica, Calif.; a sister, Maryon Chaney of East Moline, Ill.; and two grandchildren. A private family memorial is planned.
