Florence Wilson

 service will be held April 19 for Florence M. Wilson of Noti, who died April 15 of complications from Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia. . She was 80.

Wilson was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley, , to Martin and Anna Loaner Lund. She married Keith Thurman. He died in 1963. She later married Chuck Wilson in Reno, Nev., in 1972. They later divorced.

Wilson was a lifelong resident of Lane County.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing the piano and accordion.

Wilson was a secretary for Coffee Break Bowling League at Fairfield Lanes and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Disabled American Veterans The Disabled American Veterans, or DAV, is an organization for disabled veterans that helps them and their families through various means. It currently has over 1.2 million members.

The DAV was controversial during the 2006 election cycle.

Survivors include a son, Randy Thurman of Fall Creek; two daughters, Karen Nichols and Brenda Dotson, both of Randle, Wash.; a brother, Russell Lund of La Pine; a sister, Gladys Guinette of Gresham; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Tuesday's service will be at 1 p.m. at Lane Memorial Gardens.

Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Jason Cowles

He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Sioux City, Iowa <noinclude></noinclude>

Sioux City (IPA: [su: 'sɪti]) is a city located in northwest Iowa in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 85,013.
, to Charles and Clara Bond Cowles. He moved to Eugene in the 1950s.

Cowles worked in a lumber mill. He enjoyed playing pool, racing cars and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a bowler and won many trophies.

He was a member of a Moose Lodge in Springfield.

Survivors include two sons, Michael of Eugene and Mark of Springfield; a daughter, Sheila Blount of Portland; a sister, Verna Cowles of Grants Pass; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

No service is planned.

England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

James Higgins

JUNCTION CITY - A memorial service will be held April 23 for James McLean "Jim" Higgins of Junction City, who died April 11 of melanoma. He was 71.

Higgins was born Dec. 19, 1933, in Beaumont, Calif., to James and Mildred McLean Higgins. He married Shirley Tackaberry on July 21, 1962, in Tarzana, Calif.

He lived in Thousand Oaks, Calif., until 1951, and in Sullivan, Mo., until 1954. He served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957.

Higgins received a bachelor's degree in history from California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , a master's degree in history from California State University, Fullerton California State University, Fullerton, commonly known as CSUF, CSU Fullerton, or Cal State Fullerton, is a part of the California State University system. The University is located in the city of Fullerton, California, in northern Orange County. , and completed graduate studies in agriculture at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona History
W.K. Kellogg develops Arabian horse ranch
W.K. Kellogg, known for his famous Corn Flakes, had a life long passion for Arabian horses. After purchasing 377 acres at a cost of $25,000 USD, Kellogg developed the land into a world-renowned Arabian horse ranch.

He moved in 1978 to Junction City, where he taught agriculture and served as the FFA adviser at Junction City High School until 1996. He developed an active and competitive agriculture program there.

He belonged to the Junction City Lions Club, the Long Tom Grange and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He enjoyed Western U.S. and native American history, and Scottish music and traditions.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William of Sacramento; a daughter, Judith Higgins of Oxnard, Calif.; a sister, RoseMarie Hellman, also of Oxnard; and one grandchild.

Saturday's service will be held at 10 a.m. in the gym at Junction City High School. A private family service will be held later in Southern California. England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
