Byline: The Register-Guard

Bruce Brisbane

A memorial service will be held March 30 for Bruce E. Brisbane of Des Moines, Wash., formerly of Cottage Grove, who died March 25 of heart failure. He was 73.

He was born Sept. 16, 1931, in Anaconda, Mont., to Lester and Mabel Stevenson Brisbane.

He married Doris Jean Mowery in Reno, Nev., on Nov. 11, 1952.

Raised in Cottage Grove, Brisbane later moved to Seattle to work as an airline pilot for Pan American Airways. He attended the University of Oregon and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. A Boeing 747 pilot, he retired from Pan Am after 36 years. He also was a captain of his own charter boat, the Sea Dancer.

He enjoyed traveling, flying, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Brisbane was a member of the Elks, the Moose, Pan Am Pioneer Clippers and the Air Line Pilots Association.

He received numerous awards at Pan Am. He was selected as captain of Pan Am's inaugural flight from South Africa to South America in the 1980s.

He was awarded a medal for flying troops during the first Persian Gulf War.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sheri Pedersen of Black Diamond, Wash.; four sons, Curtis of Bonney Lake, Wash., Douglas of Federal Way, Wash., Mark of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Mitchell of Eatonville, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Wednesday's service will be at 1:30 p.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Chapel in Cottage Grove. Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Make A Wish Foundation.

Delbert Anderson Jr.

A memorial gathering will be held April 2 for Delbert August "Slugger" Anderson Jr. of Medford, formerly of Cottage Grove, who died March 18 of stomach cancer. He was 45.

He was born Feb. 13, 1960, in Springfield to Delbert Anderson and Esta Quick Quinnell. He grew up in Crescent City, Calif., and lived in Cottage Grove from 1987 to 2000.

Anderson worked in the timber industry as a timber faller and high climber.

He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, hunting, fishing, camping and cutting firewood.

Survivors include his father, of Creswell; his mother, of Medford; two sons, Jesse and Brad, both of Cottage Grove; a brother, Matt Quinnell of Medford; three sisters, Linda Lane of Medford, Diana Dreyer of Alaska and Virginia Anderson, serving in Iraq; his fiancee, Debbie Maddess of Cottage Grove; and one grandchild.

Saturday's gathering will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at his father's home at 82245 Hillview Drive in Creswell. Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives in Medford is in charge of arrangements.

Bill Calvert

JUNCTION CITY - A potluck memorial gathering will be held April 2 for Bill James Calvert of Junction City, who died March 20 of cancer. He was 48.

He was born April 22, 1956, in Eugene to Roy and Vera Zoller Calvert.

He attended college and worked as a diesel mechanic and long-haul driver. Calvert belonged to First Christian Church and the Junction City Grange. He enjoyed trains and camping.

Survivors include two sons, David of Junction City and Robert of Corning, Calif.; and a brother, LeRoy Keenen.

Saturday's gathering will be at noon at the Junction City Grange. Alpha Cremation Services of Junction City is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
