OBITUARIES.Byline: The Register-Guard Kenneth Champeaux Kenneth W. Champeaux of Eugene died Feb. 3 of age-related causes. He was 90. No service is planned. Champeaux was born March 26, 1914, in Cloquet, Minn., to Peter and Elizabeth Durosha Champeaux. He married Bess Smith on Nov. 30, 1980, in Springfield. He grew up in Minnesota. He moved to Eugene in the late 1940s and worked as a chef at the Delray/Eugene Hotel for many years. He later worked in maintenance for Weyerhaeuser Industries, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and ballroom dancing. Champeaux was a former member of the Eagles, Elks and Moose lodges in Eugene and Springfield. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1942 and worked at the Brookings Institution Brookings Institution, at Washington, D.C.; chartered 1927 as a consolidation of the Institute for Government Research (est. 1916), the Institute of Economics (est. 1922), and the Robert S. Brookings Graduate School of Economics and Government (est. 1924). . She lived in San Diego from 1975 to 1991, then moved to Phoenix, Ariz. She had lived in Eugene since 1998. Whitney enjoyed animals, reading, watching the Washington Redskins and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Louise Christofferson of Eugene; a son, John of Great Falls, Va.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her domestic partner of 50 years, Gene Siess, died in 2003. The celebration of life will be held in Great Falls. England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. David Meyer SCOTTSBURG - David J. Meyer of Scottsburg died Feb. 4 of cancer. He was 64. Meyer was born July 12, 1940, in Richfield, Utah, to Morris and Thelma Wanlass Meyer. He was owner of a wholesale distributorship. Meyer enjoyed fishing, hiking, old cars, trains and camping. Survivors include a son, Chris of Pahrump, Nev.; two daughters, Tami Rickard of Anchorage and Diana Hintergardt of Apple Valley, Calif.; three sisters, Beth Rappleye of Richfield, Pastey Averett of Springville, Utah, and Lois Gunnerson of Sandy, Utah; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Joseph Solomon A private family service will be held for Joseph Harrell Solomon of Eugene, who died Feb. 2 of age-related causes. He was 83. Solomon was born June 11, 1921, in Elgin, Texas, to Joe and Willie Jane Koenig Solomon. He married Margaret Nelson in 1942 in Salem. She died in 1967. He married Glenda Strobeck on April 14, 1969, in Reno, Nev. He completed high school and served in the Army during World War II.
