Joan Mathews

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be June 29 for Joan Belle Mathews of Springfield, who died June 25 of cancer. She was 64.

Mathews was born Sept. 16, 1939, in Eugene, to Ernest and Myrtle Eusted Sanders. She married Donald Mathews on Jan 11, 1997, in Springfield.

A life-long resident, Mathews graduated from Springfield High School Springfield High School may refer to:

 in 1958.

She was employed as a chef at a number of restaurants. Mathews enjoyed softball, bowling, cooking, second-hand stores, travel and spending time "Spending Time" is the first single released by Christian artist Stellar Kart.

The lyrics describe the band members desire to spend "more time with God". "Sometimes it’s a real struggle to spend time with God.

Survivors include her husband; two former husbands, Ron Smith of Bend and Roger Thomas of Springfield; two sons, Dale Smith of Reno, Nev., and Rick Smith of Springfield; two daughters, Jennifer Mertens and Ronda Smith, both of Springfield; two brothers, Michael Eusted of Redding Redding, city (1990 pop. 66,462), seat of Shasta co., N central Calif., on the Sacramento River; inc. 1872. A principal tourist center for a mountain and lake region, it also has lumbering, food-processing, and diverse manufacturing. , Calif., and John Lockey Jr. of Springfield; four sisters, Colleen Foltz of Christmas Valley, Connie Clayton of Springfield, Louise Clark of Eugene and Loleta Clark of Florence; and seven grandchildren. A son, Ernest Smith, and a great-grandchild, Casey Allen, died previously.

Tuesday's service will be at 3 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Chapel.

Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in Eugene, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Edwin Allen

The funeral will be June 30 for Edwin Earl Allen of Eugene, who died June 24 of age-related causes. He was 78.

Allen was born in Eugene on Jan. 30, 1926, to Wolff and Maude Harris Allen. He grew up in Wendling, a company logging town in rural Lane County near Marcola. Allen graduated from Mohawk High School Mohawk High School may refer to one of these high schools in the United States:

, where he lettered in track, football and basketball. He also was an Eagle Scout.

He entered the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  at the age of 16. While at UO, Allen served as student body president and was a member of the UO basketball team that earned a berth in the NCAA tournament.

Allen was a member of Alpha Tau Omega ATΩ (Alpha Tau Omega) is an American fraternity. It annually ranks among the top ten national fraternities for number of chapters and total number of members. ATO has more than 245 active and inactive chapters with more than 175,000 members and more than 6,000 undergraduate  fraternity, a recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa Phi Beta Kappa: see fraternity.

Allen graduated from the UO Law School in 1949 and entered private practice in Eugene. He married Mariann Croisan in 1953.

He was drafted into the Army's Judge Advocate General judge advocate general (J.A.G.) n. a military officer who advises the government on courts-martial and administers the conduct of courts-martial. The officers who are judge advocates and counsel assigned to the accused come from the office of the judge advocate  Corps, a tour of duty that included a stint at the Pentagon. Allen returned to Eugene after his tour ended in 1963 and was appointed to the Lane County Circuit Court by then Gov. Mark O. Hatfield.

Allen was elected to the position in 1964 and went on to win re-election five times before retiring from the bench in 1995.

He served as president of the board of the Eugene Boys Athletic Association (now Kidsports) and as chairman of Catholic Charities of Eugene. He served on the Lane County Charter Committee and on the vestry of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. The Lane County chapter of the UO Alumni Association tapped him as Alumnus ALUMNUS, civil law. A child which one has nursed; a foster child. Dig. 40, 2, 14.  of the Year in 1985.

He was a 50-year member of Portland's Multnomah Athletic Club The Multnomah Athletic Club is a private athletic club in Portland, Oregon, United States.

Founded in 1891, the club has expanded greatly from its beginnings. It now fills two buildings totaling 55,000 square feet, making it the largest indoor athletic club in the world.
 and a member of the Town Club, Eugene Country Club, the Platypus platypus (plăt`əpəs), semiaquatic egg-laying mammal, Ornithorhynchus anatinus, of Tasmania and E Australia. Also called duckbill, or duckbilled platypus, it belongs to the order Monotremata (see monotreme), the most primitive group  Club and the Round Table of Eugene. Allen was also a member of the Elks, Eagles, Shriners and Masons.

Allen was an avid sports fan and UO sports booster. He coached junior high baseball for many years. He loved to read and collected old books, specializing in juvenile fiction.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Beth Allen of Portland; a son, Edwin of Santa Monica, Calif.; and a grandchild.

Wednesday's funeral will be at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Eugene. Private burial will be at Pioneer Cemetery in Salem.

Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kidsports scholarship program or the Shriners Children's Hospital.
