Byline: The Register-Guard

Anthony Ficek

SPRINGFIELD - A celebration of life will be held April 21 for Anthony "John" Ficek of Springfield, who died April 16 of a congenital heart valve defect. He was 36.

He was born Feb. 7, 1968, in Eugene to Thomas and Kathlene Shephard Ficek. He married Shelly Smith in Eugene on Sept. 10, 1988.

Ficek was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. He was employed as lead salesman in the brush division and as a machine operator for Rose Logging Inc.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time "Spending Time" is the first single released by Christian artist Stellar Kart.

The lyrics describe the band members desire to spend "more time with God". "Sometimes it’s a real struggle to spend time with God.
 with his family.

Survivors include his parents; his wife; three sons, Chad, Chase and Colton, all of Springfield; and a brother, Jess of Creswell.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Buell Funeral Chapel.

Wednesday's service will be at 1 p.m. at South Hills Assembly of God, 3195 Hilyard St. in Eugene.

Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

Ardith Cummings

SPRINGFIELD - Ardith "Art" Cummings of Springfield died April 15 of age-related causes. He was 79.

He was born Feb. 23, 1925, in Newton, Kan., to Pliny and Katie Rice Cummings.

He attended high school in Newton and moved to Oregon 55 years ago. Cummings lived in Prineville, Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley,  and Springfield. He enjoyed fishing and hunting when he was younger. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Verb 1. lodge in - live (in a certain place); "She resides in Princeton"; "he occupies two rooms on the top floor"

Survivors include a daughter, Debora Mattern of Prine- ville; and four grandchildren.

No service is planned. Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Wirt

Phyllis Joyce Wirt of Eugene died April 15 of cancer. She was 78.

She was born July 9, 1925, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Richard and Ethel Wilmot Soltow. She attended Compton High School Compton High School is one of the three high schools in Compton, California. The other two high schools are Dominguez High School and Centennial High School. School history
The school first opened in 1896 as Compton Union High School
 and Chaffee Junior College in California. She married Rex Wirt in 1973. He died March 11, 2000.

She lived in Santa Cruz Santa Cruz, city, United States
Santa Cruz (săn`tə krz), city (1990 pop. 49,040), seat of Santa Cruz co., W Calif., on the north shore of Monterey Bay; inc. 1866.
, Fremont and Ontario, Calif., then lived in Bandon for 17 years. She worked as a waitress.

Wirt enjoyed dolls, miniatures, ceramics and animals of all kinds.

Survivors include two sons, Stacy Turner of Sonoma, Calif., and Leslie Turner of Springfield; a daughter, Coral Harper of San Jose San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
; seven grand- children and five great-grandchildren. A son, Lance Turner, and a former spouse, Raymond Turner, died previously.

A memorial service will be held later. Andreason's Cremation cremation, disposal of a corpse by fire. It is an ancient and widespread practice, second only to burial.
