Evelyn Getchell

The funeral will be March 9 for Evelyn Laura Getchell of Eugene, who died March 4 of age-related causes. She was 94.

She was born Oct. 11, 1909, in Gold Creek There are several creeks referred to as Gold Creek:

  • Gold Creek (Australia)
, Mont., to Joseph and Amanda Periman Kenney. She married Robert C. Little in Montana in 1926. They divorced in 1938. She married Lynn C. Getchell in Eugene on Sept. 4, 1948. He later died.

She worked in the Astoria shipyards during World War II and at a naval base A naval base primarily for support of the forces afloat, contiguous to a port or anchorage, consisting of activities or facilities for which the Navy has operating responsibilities, together with interior lines of communications and the minimum surrounding area necessary for local  in Northern Idaho. She moved to Eugene in 1938.

Her interests included gardening, sewing and cooking. She was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters, Irving Grange and Good Sam Club The Good Sam Club is an international organization of recreational vehicle owners. Its primary goals are to make RVing safer and more enjoyable, and to save members money through Club-endorsed benefits and services. It claims over a million members. .

Survivors include three sons, Robert Little of Wenatchee, Wash., John Getchell of Cornelius and L. Douglas Getchell of Eugene; a daughter, Lois Zimmerman of Eugene; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Margaret Little, died previously.

Tuesday's service will be at 2 p.m. at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene, with burial to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lane County Meals on Wheels n. 1. A program that delivers hot meals to persons, such as the elderly or disabled, who are confined to their homes and unable to cook for themselves; also, the meals thus delivered. Such programs are usually conducted by governmental or charitable organizations. .

Robert Gonzales Jr.

The memorial service will be today, March 8, for Robert V. Gonzales Jr. of Eugene, who died March 4 of complications from cancer surgery. He was 47.

He was born Sept. 9, 1956, in Taos, N.M., to Robert and Veleta veleta

 Gillaspy Gonzales. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene and graduated from Churchill High School in 1975.

His interests included music, gardening, family and friends.

Survivors include his parents of Belen, N.M., and a sister, Maria Green of Vancouver, Wash.

Today's service will be at 7 p.m. at Andreason's Springfield Cremation cremation, disposal of a corpse by fire. It is an ancient and widespread practice, second only to burial. It has been found among the chiefdoms of the Pacific Northwest, among Northern Athapascan bands in Alaska, and among Canadian cultural groups.  Center, 3305 Main St. in Springfield. Brad Hayden

SPRINGFIELD - The memorial service will be March 10 for Bradley Edward "Brad" Hayden of Springfield, who died March 3 at age 21. The family chose not to list the cause of death.

Hayden was born June 1, 1982, in Roseburg to Ron and Doralee Baird Hayden. He attended high school in Sutherlin and studied at Umpqua and Lane community colleges. He was employed at Newcomer Home in Springfield, working with special needs children.

He was active in sports, playing baseball, basketball, wrestling and track. Other hobbies included fishing, hunting and songwriting. He will be remembered for making people smile and performing for his friends.

Survivors include his parents of Sutherlin; a brother, Michael of San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Wednesday's service will be at 3:30 p.m. at Sutherlin Family Church, 878 W. Sixth Ave. in Sutherlin. Chapel of the Firs Funeral Home, Sutherlin, is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Martin

The memorial service will be March 13 for Jerry Jim Martin of Bellevue, Wash., formerly of Eugene, who died Feb. 28 of esophageal cancer Esophageal Cancer Definition

Esophageal cancer is a malignancy that develops in tissues of the hollow, muscular canal (esophagus) along which food and liquid travel from the throat to the stomach.
. He was 62.

He was born July 11, 1941, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Jim and Masel Brown Martin. He married Dorothy Bell in South Lake Tahoe, Nev., on Dec. 31, 1972.

He lived in Eugene from 1956 to 1962, and later lived in Portland, Seattle and Bellevue. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting and business statistics from the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities. , and his master's in computer science from Texas A&M University.

Martin was a Vietnam veteran who served in the Air Force from 1962 to 1970. He worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company provided telephone services in the states of Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho.

Pacific Northwest Bell was created on July 1, 1961, when the Bell telephone operations in northern Idaho, Oregon, and Washington state were split off
 and US West as a data processing manager, budget analyst and business consultant. He later worked as an independent consultant.

He was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Phoenix.

He enjoyed playing cards, reading, writing, travel, and peace and environmental activism.

He was a member of the Association for Quality and Participation, the Foundation for Global Community and the Center for Spiritual Living. He also belonged to the Phi Beta Kappa Phi Beta Kappa: see fraternity.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Justin of Bellevue; three daughters, Ellen Karl of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Sarah Hamilton of Portland and DeAnna Martin of Bellevue; a brother, Lynn of Adelaide, Australia; four sisters, Dwan Carter of Naples, Fla., Kay Drew and Masel Meinhardt, both of Medford, and Cheryl Carter of Milwaukie; and three grandchildren.

Saturday's service will be at 1 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living at 5801 Sand Point Way N.E. in Seattle. American Burial and Cremation Services of Bellevue is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Healthcare Foundation in Kirkland, Wash., or to the Swedish Foundation Cancer Research Fund in Seattle.

The funeral for Alice Todd of Eugene will be at noon Tuesday at West Lawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Eugene.
