OBITUARIES.

Eighteen-year Livermore Area Recreation and Park District member Larry Faltings died of cancer on April 10, 2001 at the age of 55. At the time of his last election to the Board in 1998, he listed the development of a skateboard park, the development of a community center, and continued stewardship with increased access to natural areas as his top priorities. Faltings was known for his fiscal concerns throughout his years on the Board and he fought to end the state's take of half of the community's park and recreation property taxes. Faultings also consistently strove to reevaluate programs that would meet the community's needs and interests. He was a graduate of Livermore High School, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of California at Davis and a Master's degree in Economics from San Jose State University. He had been president and general manager of West Coast Clean Care, Inc. in South San Francisco. He had been a member of the Tri-Valley Community Fund Allocations Committee, Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Superintendent's Budget Advisory Committee, had been a soccer and Little League coach and was active with Sprint Car Racing. He is survived by his wife, Maryalice, also an LARPD board member, two sons, a stepson, two stepdaughters, and four grandchildren.
