Billy Gordon

YONCALLA - Billy J. Gordon of Yoncalla died March 2 of emphysema. He was 73.

He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Bell, Calif., to Joe "Pappy pap·py 1

" and Adelle Gordon. He married Louise Merk in 1951. They later divorced. He married Delores Criter on June 15, 1984, in Reno, Nev.

He graduated from Yoncalla High School in 1951 and attended gunsmith gun·smith

 college in Denver. He worked in the logging industry and as a carpenter for the school district in Reno.

He enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, woodworking and his pets. His family remembers him as a giving person and good storyteller.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Joe of Curtin and Clint, Eric and Mark, all of Yoncalla; a daughter, Teddi Mays of Newburg; and numerous grand- children and great- grandchildren.

No service is planned. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove is in charge of arrangements.

 service will be March 7 for Geneva Ruth Harris of Eugene, who died March 2 of respiratory failure. She was 81.

Harris was born March 1, 1925, in Warroad, Minn., to Alexander and Frances Bolton Cameron. She married Raymond Harris on June 3, 1943. He died in 1991.

She was a housewife and mother who enjoyed her family, reading and writing. Her short story, "The Reival Meeting," was published in Popular Fiction by Oregon Writers in 1986.

Survivors include four sons, James of Yuma, Ariz., Raymond "Rusty" and Alan, both of Eugene, and Daniel of Junction City; three brothers, Duncan Cameron and Kenneth Cameron, both of Springfield, and Michael Cameron of Oakridge; three sisters, Fern Tift and Dorothy Cameron, both of Springfield, and Frances "Billie" Wilbur of Bend; and 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Helen McCune, died previously.

Tuesday's service will be at 11:30 a.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park, with entombment at the mausoleum.

Beth Richmond

PLEASANT HILL - Beth Richmond of Pleasant Hill died March 2 of cancer. She was 76.

She was born July 8, 1929, in Stonewall County, Texas Stonewall County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. In 2000, its population was 1,693. Its county seat is Aspermont6. The county is named for Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson, a general of the Confederate Army. Geography

She retired and had lived in Pleasant Hill since 1993. She enjoyed spending time with her toy poodle Jean-Luc, gardening, photography, collecting dolls, embroidery, writing and reading. She belonged to the Red Hat Club in Eugene.

Survivors include a son, Don Lynch of Lubbock; a daughter, Diane Arbuckle of Eugene; four brothers, Bob Scott of Amarillo, Texas, Jimmie Scott of Lubbock, Bernard Scott of Midland, Texas, and Rodger Scott of San Francisco; and a sister, Imogene Means of Ransom Canyon, Texas Ransom Canyon is a town in Lubbock County, Texas, United States. No service is planned. Andreason's Cremation cremation, disposal of a corpse by fire. It is an ancient and widespread practice, second only to burial. Vernon Sorenson

Vernon Charles Sorenson of Eugene died March 1 of age-related causes. He was 89.

Sorenson was born June 14, 1916, in Midvale, Utah, to S.C.B. and Agnes Carlson Sorenson. He married Rula "Jean" Gardner in Salt Lake City on June 21, 1946.

He held a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah The University of Utah (also The U or the U of U or the UU), located in Salt Lake City, is the flagship public research university in the state of Utah, and one of 10 institutions that make up the Utah System of Higher Education.  and a master's degree from the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  and also studied in Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland.

He was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ Church of Jesus Christ may refer to:

 of Latter-day Saints in Germany in 1938, when the Kristallnacht round-up of the Jewish population occurred, and was forced by the Nazi government to leave the country. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps Fifth Air Force from March 1941 to November 1945, serving in the South Pacific during World War II and leaving the military as a staff sergeant. The purpose of the American Defense Service Medal is to recognize those members of the U.S.

He also received the Philippine Liberation Medal The Philippine Liberation Medal is a military award of the Republic of the Philippines which was created by an order of Commonwealth of the Philippines Army Headquarters on December 20 1944. , bestowed by the government of the Philippines.

Sorenson moved to North Bend in 1961, where he taught French, German and photography at Southwestern Oregon Community College Southwestern Oregon Community College is a college in Coos Bay, Oregon, United States. It is Oregon's oldest community college, founded in 1959. The college has about 3,000 students annually and has 60 full-time employees and 275 part-time instructors. . He served as chairman of the school's division of arts.

He was a staunch supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), nonpartisan organization devoted to the preservation and extension of the basic rights set forth in the U.S. Constitution. . He enjoyed travel to Europe, China, South America and all 50 states, ocean cruises and driving the Alcan Highway. He also enjoyed Dixieland jazz, playing tuba tuba (t`bə) [Lat.,=trumpet], valved brass wind musical instrument of wide conical bore.  in the Coos Bay Community Band and black-and-white photography. His work was shown in numerous photography shows. He had lived in the Eugene area since 1998.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles "Peter" of Eugene and Chris "John" of Portland; and three grand- children.

No service is planned. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake City. Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Marguerite Ranstad

A memorial service will be held April 7 for Marguerite Marie Ranstad of Eugene, who died March 1 of age-related causes. She was 93.

She was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Omaha, Neb., to John and Emily Nordstrom. She married Harold Ranstad on Sept. 14, 1940, in Minneapolis. He died Dec. 19, 1968.

She attended National Business School and Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., from 1931 to 1937. She had a 30-year real estate career in the Portland area from 1965 to 1995.

She enjoyed music performance and participation with the Portland Symphonic Choir, Portland Opera, symphony and art museum. She served as president of the Portland Opera Guild and was a member of the PEO Sisterhood. She was a soloist and member of the Milwaukie Lutheran Church choir.

Survivors include two sons, John of Eugene and Terry of Bend, and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The April 7 service will be held at 2 p.m. at Milwaukie Lutheran Church. Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Milwaukie Lutheran Church's music program.
