Leonard King The funeral will be held Dec. 9 for Leonard Maxwell King of Eugene, who died Dec. 3 of heart failure. He was 88. King was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Ogema, Saskatchewan, to Cecil and Nellie Tibbetts King. He married Donna Hopper on April 7, 1941, in Cottage Grove. He lived in Saskatchewan until 1922, then moved to Cottage Grove, where he graduated from high school. He served in the Army Air Force in World War II from 1942 to 1946. He later moved to Eugene. King owned a Texaco service station in 1959-60 and later owned Knowles-Wheeler Insurance. He enjoyed fishing, coins, card games, sports, history, gardening and spending time with his family. He belonged to the Masonic lodge. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bradford of Sisters and Scott of Noti; a daughter, Tamara Flippin of Mexico and California; a sister, Dottie Hackema of Lincoln City; eight grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Calvary Open Bible Church, followed at 1 p.m. by the funeral in the church. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel into Soviet (North Korean) and U.S. (South Korean) zones of occupation. as a tail gunner in a B-29 bomber. She married Andy Griener in 1944, and he died in 1980. She had lived in Lane County since 1945, in Elmira, Creswell and Eugene. She was a homemaker and had worked as a rancher, mill worker, and logger. She previously lived in Minnesota and in McCloud, Alturas and Madeline, all in California. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and reading, and belonged to St. Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include two daughters, Madonna Collins of Eugene and Bernardine Bearden of Springfield; a son, Gerald LaTulippe of La Pine; a brother, Jerome Vaughn of Touchet, Wash.; four stepchildren, Alice Griener, Paul Griener, Pauline Griener and Andrew Griener Jr.; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Survivors include a son, James of Eugene; and three sisters, Marilyn Mauk of Creswell, Laurel Olheiser of Eugene and Sharon Heizelman of Minot, N.D.
