Marvin Minick

Marvin S. Minick of Eugene died Aug. 27 of heart failure. He was 86.

He was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Hot Springs, S.D., to John and Olga Scott Minick. He married Thelma Coleman on May 10, 1947, in Eugene.

A resident of Oregon since 1936, he graduated from Oregon State University Oregon State University, at Corvallis; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1858 as Corvallis College, opened 1865. In 1868 it was designated Oregon's land-grant agricultural college and was taken over completely by the state in 1885.  in 1948. He served in the Army Air Corps' 570 Bombardment Squad from January 1943 to December 1945 and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Oak Leaf Cluster oak leaf cluster

He worked for the Oregon highway department and retired from Weyerhaeuser 32 years ago.

He enjoyed golf, reading and his home and family. His family remembers him as a "workaholic work·a·hol·ic

" and that he "enjoyed his greenhouse." He was a member of the Masons and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen McVay of Eugene; and a sister, Betty Dyer of Eugene. A daughter, Kathy Minick, died Dec. 18, 1998.

At Minick's request, no service is planned. England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille Pyle

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be held Sept. 1 for Lucille Geraldine Pyle, who died Aug. 27 of cancer. She was 80.

She was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Windsor, Vt., to Cora Weeden and Robert Smith Robert Smith, Bob Smith or Bobby Smith may refer to:

. She attended Garden High School in Plymouth, N.H.

She married Olif Harris on Oct. 3, 1944. He died Feb. 17, 1965. She married James Pyle in Springfield on July 6, 1967. He died in November 2002.

Pyle worked at the Agripac cannery, as a Register-Guard rural route driver and as a special needs caregiver. She lived in the local area 53 years.

She enjoyed visiting shut-ins, traveling and camping. She was a member of the Church of Christ and Assembly of God.

Thursday's service will be at 2 p.m. at North Springfield Church of Christ. Springfield Memorial Gardens is in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Broadwater

COTTAGE GROVE - The funeral will be held today, Aug. 30, for Glenn R. Broadwater of Cottage Grove, who died Aug. 26 of age-related causes. He was 86.

Broadwater was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Preston, Iowa. He married Susanna Stephenson on Nov. 29, 1942, in Los Angeles. She died Dec. 16, 1996.

He graduated from Corvallis High School Corvallis High School may refer to:

 in 1937 and attended Oregon State University for a year. He later lived in Los Angeles and had lived in Cottage Grove for 16 years. He had retired after working in the aerospace industry for 35 years.

Broadwater belonged to Creswell Masonic Lodge 11, Cottage Grove Chapter 4 of Order of the Eastern Star The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world that both men and women can join. It was established in 1850 by Rob Morris, a lawyer and educator from Boston, Massachusetts who had been an official with the Freemasons.  and Royal Arch Masons. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen of Santa Clarita, Calif., and William of Pittsboro, N.C.; a daughter, Susanna Broadwater of Cottage Grove; a brother, Lawrence of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 Wortham

OAKRIDGE - A memorial service will be held today, Aug. 30, for Carlin Samar "Six" Wortham of Oakridge, who died Aug. 23 in a tree-falling accident in the Mapleton area. He was 24.

Wortham was born April 18, 1981, in Seattle, to Lloyd and Rendi Jackson Wortham.

He had lived in Oakridge for 19 years. He was a graduate of Oakridge High School, where he lettered in both basketball and football for four years. An avid reader, he also enjoyed writing poetry and drawing.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. today at Oakridge Chapel of the Woods Funeral Home. Today's service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Forestvale Memorial Park in Oakridge.

Jack Maycumber

A memorial service will be held Sept. 1 for Jack Clayton Maycumber of Eugene, who died Aug. 25 of age-related causes. He was 81.

Maycumber was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Waynoka, Okla., to Pat and Reah Henry Maycumber. He married Betty Bray on May 8, 1943, in Oakland, Calif.

He moved with his family to Oregon in the mid-1930s and they settled in Wendling. He attended Mohawk High School Mohawk High School may refer to one of these high schools in the United States:

Survivors include his wife; a son, Cary of Beaverton; a daughter, Dannah Taylor, also of Beaverton; a brother, Allyn of Sweet Home; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Tiffany Lonigan, died in 1967.

Thursday's service will be at 10:30 a.m. at Eugene Faith Center. Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

Verna Marie Erickson of Eugene died Aug. 24 of cancer. She was 88. She was born Jan. 15, 1917, in Yamhill County, to Alfred and Dovie Hardin Olson. Private burial was in Willamette National Cemetery Willamette National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery in Clackamas County, Oregon, about 10 miles southeast of the city of Portland, Oregon. It encompasses 269.4 acres, and as of the end of 2005, had 126,561 interments.  in Portland. Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene was in charge of arrangements.
