Kenneth Widmer

SPRINGFIELD - The funeral will be Feb. 23 for Kenneth "Ken" Widmer of Springfield, who died Feb. 18 of age-related causes. He was 82.

He was born June 30, 1922, in Portland to Max and Sarah Dickson Widmer. He married LaVerne Hallock in Portland on Jan. 6, 1951.

Widmer grew up in Portland and graduated from Roosevelt High School Roosevelt High School is the name of various public and independent secondary schools:

. He moved to Springfield in 1953.

He worked for Columbia River Log Scaling Bureau for 40 years as a log and check scaler, and retired as area manager.

Widmer was a gardener, accordion player and avid Ducks fan. He was a member of the Elks and Masonic lodges, and of St. John's Episcopal Church St. John's Episcopal Church can refer to one of the following registered historic churches:
  • St. John's Episcopal Church (Bridgeport, Connecticut)
  • St. John's Episcopal Church (East Hartford, Connecticut)
  • St. John's Episcopal Church (East Windsor, Connecticut)

. He also was a decorated veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Craig of Springfield; two daughters, Karen LaFleur and Susie Bush, both of Springfield; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. Wednesday's funeral will be at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.

Earl Robertson

SWEET HOME - A graveside service will be held Feb. 22 for Earl Austin Robertson of Sweet Home, who died Feb. 18 of age-related causes. He was 92.

He was born June 14, 1912, in Blachly to Harry and Myrtle Graham Robertson. He married Frances E. Huctchins on July 30, 1937, in Stevens, Wash.

Robertson was employed in logging and road construction, working for Sardine sardine: see herring.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Leroy of Sweet Home; a daughter, Lois Kerns of Eugene; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Tuesday's service will be at 3 p.m. at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel in Sweet Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marguerite Grundig

Marguerite Hart Grundig of Eugene died Feb. 9 of congestive heart failure congestive heart failure, inability of the heart to expel sufficient blood to keep pace with the metabolic demands of the body. In the healthy individual the heart can tolerate large increases of workload for a considerable length of time. . She was 90.

She was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Frank and Goldie Kirkpatrick Hart. She married Helmuth Grundig in 1941. He died in 1999.

She attended Los Angeles City College Los Angeles City College, known as LACC, is a public community college in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles, California. A part of the Los Angeles Community College District, it is located on Vermont Avenue south of Santa Monica Boulevard.  and later the University of California at Berkeley (body, education) University of California at Berkeley - (UCB)

After working for the California Public Health laboratory, she moved to Salinas, Calif. She then attended Stanford University and earned a master's degree in microbiology.

She moved to Carmel Valley, Calif., and attended San Jose State College and earned a master's degree in library science. Grundig worked two years at the Oakland, Calif., library and later moved to Eureka, Calif., where she was extension librarian for Humboldt County.

She lived in Eugene since 1994.

Grundig enjoyed the Eugene Symphony, Eugene Ballet, Eugene Concert Choir Eugene Concert Choir is a non-profit choral organization based in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It consists of two mixed-voice choruses: the 100-member Eugene Concert Choir (ECC), and the semi-professional chamber group Eugene Vocal Arts Ensemble (EVAE).  and Oregon Mozart Players Oregon Mozart Players is a professional chamber orchestra based in Eugene, Oregon. The orchestra presents six concert sets in a typical season, in addition to numerous small ensemble performances and recitals by guest artists. . She sang in the Junction City Community Chorus since 1994. She belonged to the League of Women Voters League of Women Voters, voluntary public service organization of U.S. citizens. Organized in 1920 in Chicago as an outgrowth of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, it had as its original nucleus the leaders of the latter organization. , City Club of Eugene, the American Civil Liberties Union American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), nonpartisan organization devoted to the preservation and extension of the basic rights set forth in the U.S. Constitution.  and the Union of Concerned Scientists The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is a nonprofit advocacy group based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. The UCS membership includes many private citizens in addition to professional scientists. .

She enjoyed gardening, reading, lacemaking lacemaking

, pottery and supporting responsible causes.

Survivors include two brothers, Bill Hart and George Hart, both of Upland, Calif.; and a sister, Betty Bramer of Albuquerque, N.M.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Helmut and Marguerite Grundig scholarship fund for nursing at Lane Community College.

Helen Blackmon

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be held Feb. 24 for Helen Rebecca Blackmon of Springfield, who died Feb. 16 of emphysema. She was 76.

She was born July 17, 1928, in Lithonia, Ga., to James and Sadie Butler Leftwich. She married Joe Blackmon on Sept. 1, 1958, in Bowman, Ga. He died June 28, 1971.

She graduated from Lithonia High School in 1946. She was head operator for Southern Bell Telephone Co. from 1946 to 1955. She later lived in Las Vegas and Cottonwood, Ariz. She worked for a cannery in Eugene from 1959 to 1972 and the Gamebird Village Market from 1972 to 1976.

Blackmon worked in appliance sales for Montgomery Ward from 1982 to 2000 and for Sears from 2000 to 2002. She won recognition as top sales associate at Montgomery Ward. She enjoyed working and spending time with her friends and family.

Survivors include a son, Doug Farmer of Sunriver; a daughter, Jo Cain of Springfield; two sisters, Ellie Miller of Conyers, Ga., and Sarah Jo Pope of Lithonia; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, Tom Farmer, died June 8, 1971.

Thursday's service will be at 1 p.m. at Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield.
