Gary Simpson A memorial service will be held Dec. 10 for Gary Lee Simpson of Salem, formerly of Springfield and Eugene, who died Dec. 5 following a stroke. He was 59. Simpson was born Aug. 19, 1945, in Spokane, to Harold and Dorothy Lytle Simpson. He formerly lived in Spokane, Detroit, Springfield and Eugene. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a tail sawyer at Stuckard's mill in Detroit. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his friends. Survivors include his son, David, of Leaburg; a daughter, Heather Simpson of Cottage Grove; two brothers, George of Eugene and Steven of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
