Deanne Schumacher

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be held Nov. 15 for Deanne K. Schumacher of Springfield, who died Nov. 5 of cancer. She was 61.

Schumacher was born June 30, 1942, in Eugene to Henry and Sylvia Meatte Yearwood.

She worked in the accounting field and was employed with a lumber company, an import-export business and a print shop. She was a lifetime resident of this area.

She was a member of the Easter Seal Pool and the Masonic Lodge Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing, dancing, playing bridge and backgammon backgammon (băk`găm'ən, băk'găm`ən), game of chance and skill played by two persons upon a specially marked board divided by a space, called the bar, into two tables (inner table and outer table), each of which has 12  and painting. She served as a volunteer with Senior Services' bill payers program.

Survivors include her mother of Eugene; a daughter, Lisa Schumacher of Portland; a son, Peter of Eugene; and a sister, Jan Schumacher of Portland.

Saturday's service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church United Methodist Church, in the United States, religious body formed by the union in 1968 of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church (see Methodism).  in Springfield. Marion Aird

A memorial service will be held Nov. 15 for Marion Louise Aird of Eugene, who died Nov. 1 of age-related causes. She was 87.

Aird was born Jan. 14, 1916, in Kettle Falls, Wash., to Fredrick and Margaret Kish Rimars. She married James Aird in Kettle Falls on Feb. 28, 1936. He died Oct. 30, 1974.

She settled in this area in 1945 and worked as a secretary for many years with the graduate program at the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  School of Music. Many students will remember her as a driving force in their quest to achieve their goals with the master's program. She enjoyed drawing, painting, the arts, creative writing and her piano.

Survivors include her husband, Robin; a daughter, Marina Hickman; five grandchildren; and seven great-grand- children. A daughter, Georgia Simmons, died in January of 1985.

Virginia Foulkrod

 service will be held today, Nov. 14, for Virginia Mae Foulkrod, of Harrisburg, who died Nov. 11 of age-related causes. She was 84.

Foulkrod was born March 29, 1919, in Wallowa to Alvis and Mary Fields Rogers. She married Willard Foulkrod in La Grande on April 9, 1938.

She lived in La Grande and Hermiston before moving to Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley,  in 1954. She later settled in Harrisburg.

She worked as a bookkeeper for several local companies.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Junction City.

She was an avid bowler and she belonged to various bowling leagues.

She enjoyed fishing. She especially enjoyed traveling, particularly to Reno, Nev.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Patricia Finley of Harrisburg; a brother, Edgar Rogers of Forest Grove; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Machelle Finley, died previously.

Today's service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City. Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City is in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Curland

A festive tribute will be held Nov. 15 for Agnes Curland of Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850. , Calif., formerly of Eugene, died Oct. 20. She was 76.

Curland was born April 3, 1927, in Hungary to Max and Olga Morandini Young. She married David Curland in San Luis Obispo San Luis Obispo (săn l`ĭs ōbĭs`pō), city (1990 pop. 41,958), seat of San Luis Obispo co., S Calif., near San Luis Obispo Bay; inc. 1856. , Calif., on Jan. 4, 1950.

She lived in Szigetvar, Hungary, until 1938, when she moved to Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . She lived in Eugene from 1958 until 1999, when she settled in Santa Barbara.

She worked as an administrative assistant for Harris School and the Center for the Study of Women in Society at the University of Oregon. She was also employed as a manager with Opus 5 Gallery in Eugene.

Her interests included collecting folk art folk art, the art works of a culturally homogeneous people produced by artists without formal training. The forms of such works are generally developed into a tradition that is either cut off from or tenuously connected to the contemporary cultural mainstream. .

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Matthew of Santa Barbara and Martin of Pacific Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m). , Calif.; a daughter, Susan Garrett Susan Garrett is a Democratic member of the Illinois Senate, representing the 29th District since 2003. The district includes all or parts of Bannockburn, Deerfield, Des Plaines, Illinois|Des Plaines, Fort Sheridan, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Highwood, Knollwood, Lake Bluff,  of Santa Barbara; a sister, Alice Izanhour of Eugene; and two grandchildren.

Saturday's festive tribute will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maude Kerns Maude Irvine Kerns (1879 – 1965) was an American artist. Kerns was born in 1879 in Portland, Oregon, where she was raised by her pioneer parents. After high school, she graduated from the University of Oregon, the California School of Fine Arts and later Columbia University,  Art Center in Eugene. McDermott-Crockett Mortuary in Santa Barbara is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Flory

A celebration of life will be held Nov. 15 for Melvin Lester "Buck" Flory of Goshen and Eugene, who died Nov. 1 of respiratory failure Respiratory Failure Definition

Respiratory failure is nearly any condition that affects breathing function or the lungs themselves and can result in failure of the lungs to function properly.
. He was 67.

Flory was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Seattle to Chester and Margaret Stem Flory. He married Caroline "Carrie" Schaefer in Stevenson, Wash., on Jan. 20, 1956.

He lived in the Washington cities of North Bend North Bend is the name of several places in the United States of America:

  • North Bend, Washington

  • North Bend State Park
, Long Beach and Ocean Park before moving to Oregon. He lived in Days Creek, Waldport and Bend before settling in this area 36 years ago.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Olson of Springfield, and Kim Flory of Eugene; two sons, Kevin of Pleasant Hill and Mark of Marcola; two brothers, John of Grand Ronde and Marvin of Bremerton, Wash.; three sisters, Kay Nelson of Estacada, Joanne Davis of Salem and Ronda Lundeen of Eugene; 10 grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.

The celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at 462 N. 35th St. in Springfield. Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

Lavert Burton

" Burton of Eugene, who died Nov. 10 following a stroke. She was 87.

Burton was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Hanna, Okla., to William Largen and Ruth Spears. She marred Edgar Burton in Centralia, Wash., in 1933. He died Oct. 15, 1994.

She graduated from high school. She lived in Centralia from 1930 until 1999. She and her husband owned and operated Arco and Standard service stations in Centralia and Bucoda, Wash., from 1952 until their retirement in 1974.

She enjoyed her family, traveling and gardening, particularly flowers. She also enjoyed reading Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour Westerns. She especially enjoyed attending family get-togethers and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Lundstrom of Eugene and Sharen Cottrell of Yelm, Wash.; a son, Richard of Tumwater, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grand- children; and six great-great-grand- children.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary in Centralia. Saturday's service will be held at 2 p.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery in Tenino, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Dallas Miller

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be held Nov. 15 for Dallas Miller of Springfield, who died Oct. 29 at the age of 74. His family chose not to list the cause of death.

Miller was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Fairmount, N.D., to August and Margaret Mueller. The family later changed their name to Miller.

He served in the Army for 10 years. He settled in this area in 1953.

Survivors include a son, Danny of Florence; a daughter, Dalinda Minton of Florence; and five grandchildren. Two sons, Randy and Delbert, died previously.

Saturday's service will be held at noon at the U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Springfield. Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Eugene is in charge of arrange- ments.

Helen Bennett

A memorial service will be held Nov. 15 for Helen Alice Bennett of Eugene, who died Nov. 7 of age-related causes. She was 91.

Bennett was born Jan. 2, 1912, in Salem to Arthur and Emma Albert Rex. She married Herbert Bennett in Salem in 1935. He died in November of 1966.

She graduated from Salem High School Salem High School may refer to:

She was minister's wife and an accomplished musician. She served as organist and pianist in the churches she and her husband served. She lived in Oregon, Washington and Canada until 1966, when she moved to Portland. She settled in Eugene after her retirement.

She was a talented seamstress and cook and she enjoyed reading. She was a Duck fan and she also enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping and bird watching. She especially enjoyed her granddaughters.

Her family and friends will remember how she championed the rights of her developmentally disabled daughter. She will also be remembered as a woman with a keen wit who was a challenge and a delight to those who knew her and who lived her life with quiet dignity, intelligence and curiosity.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy James; and two grandchildren. A daughter, Virginia Bennett, died in October of 2000.

Saturday's service will be held at 1 p.m. at the First Naza- rene Church in Eugene. Inurn- ment will be at Riverview Cemetery in Portland. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Zelinsky

REEDSPORT - A memorial service will be held Nov. 15 for Walter Zelinsky of Reedsport, who died Nov. 9 of complications following surgery. He was 76.

Zelinsky was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Ensenada, Mexico, to Paul and Anna Etsman Zelinsky. He married Helen Covert in Reno, Nev., on Oct. 29, 1964.

He grew up and graduated from high school in California. He served in the Army during World War II.

He worked as a bread truck driver for Rainbo Bakery in Sacramento before retiring at the age of 50. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for 25 years.

He built a log home from scratch in Kendrick, Idaho, before settling in Reedsport eight years ago.

He was an eight-year member and past president of the Salmon Trout Enhancement Program and he belonged to the United Presbyterian Church United Presbyterian Church, two denominations of Presbyterianism.

 in Reedsport.

He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Philip Zelinsky of Lewiston, Idaho, and Louie Ortiz of Sacramento; four daughters, Deborah Costuras of Camino, Calif., Susan McIver of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Christine Thibodeaux of Nashville, Tenn., and Pamela Copas of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Lucy Kuzmenkov of Weimar, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren.

Saturday's service will be held at 11 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Reedsport. Dunes Memorial Chapel in Reedsport is in charge of arrangements.

Fredrick Denniston

A celebration of life will be held Nov. 15 for Fredrick Edwin "Ed" Denniston of Black Butte Ranch, formerly of Eugene, who died Nov. 9 of age-related causes. He was 81.

Denniston was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Seattle to Albert and Mary Day Denniston. He married Anne Edwardson on Jan. 22, 1949.

He grew up in Portland and Eugene. He graduated from the University of Oregon and from the University of San Francisco     [  Law School.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He worked for U.S. Steel in San Francisco. He later worked as the head of the tax department at Fibreboard fibreboard
