Arnold P. Berggren

Arnold P. Berggren of Creswell died April 10 of a stroke. He was 72.

He served in the Army during the Korean War Korean War, conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel into Soviet (North Korean) and U.S. (South Korean) zones of occupation. . He enjoyed hunting, fishing and exploring the Bohemia areas.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark and Gary, both of Creswell; a daughter, Cheryl Lavender of Creswell; a sister, Marion Peterson of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother, David Berggren of Rice, Minn.; and four grandchildren. A brother, Fred Berggren, died previously.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove Cottage Grove, village (1990 pop. 22,935), Washington co., SE Minn., near the St. Croix River; inc. 1965. There is farming (cattle, sheep, corn, and soybeans) and manufacturing (chemicals and machinery). . Tuesday's service will be at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home.

Max Allen

Max L. Allen of Eugene died April 9 of cancer. He was 81.

Allen was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Chanute, Kan., to Joseph and Clara Gish Allen. He married Verna Kimball on May 25, 1946.

He lived in Sedan, Kan., Redding Redding, city (1990 pop. 66,462), seat of Shasta co., N central Calif., on the Sacramento River; inc. 1872. A principal tourist center for a mountain and lake region, it also has lumbering, food-processing, and diverse manufacturing. , Calif., Grants Pass, and Albert Lea Albert Lea (lē), city (1990 pop. 18,310), seat of Freeborn co., S Minn., near the Iowa line; inc. 1878. It is a manufacturing and marketing center in a dairy, livestock, and poultry region. Lea college is located on Lake Chapeau. A state park is nearby. , Minn., before moving to this area 36 years ago. He lived in Cottage Grove before settling in Eugene.

He attended Kansas State College. He served in the Army for four years during World War II and was stationed in North Africa and the South Pacific. He worked as a manager at Weyerhaeuser for 30 years and was once recognized as manager of the year. He was a life-member of Hoo-Hoo International, a fraternal society of the forest products industry.

His interests included fishing, hunting, traveling, University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  sports and investing. He was a life-member of the Elks.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bruce of Eugene; a daughter, Barbara Zentner of Springfield; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

No service is planned. England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
