OAKMONT CONCERNS DEBATED CRITICS WORRY DEVELOPMENT WOULD BE BAD FOR COMMUNITY.

Byline: Jennifer Hamm Staff Writer

GLENDALE - Supporters and opponents of a controversial hillside development attended a forum Wednesday to voice their concerns.

The crowd of more than 35 people filled the Sparr Heights Senior Center to hear the pros and cons pros and cons

of the development known as Oakmont View V, a proposed 572-home project in the Verdugo Mountains The Verdugo Mountains are a small mountain range located just south of the western San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County, Southern California, The United States of America (USA). The range is commonly known simply as the Verdugos. .

``We care about the animals, but we care about the people as well. And the people we care about are the people who live here now,'' said Marc Stirdivant, president of the Volunteers Organized in Conserving the Environment. ``I don't think anyone can say, though some will certainly try, that Oakmont View V will do these people any good at all.''

Stirdivant argued that the development would hurt the community, crowding schools and freeways and destroying open space.

But John Gregg John Gregg can refer to the following people:
  • John Robert Gregg (1867–1948), Inventor of Gregg Shorthand
  • John Gregg (CSA) (1828–1864), Confederate general
  • John Irvin Gregg (1826–1892), Union general
of Gregg Artistic Homes, the developer, said the proposed project would have a relatively small impact on open space.

``When we're through, it's not the mountains that will be gone. There will be a massive amount left,'' said Gregg.

Both sides gave more than 20-minute speeches, which were followed by a brief question-and-answer period from the audience.

The developer has been trying to get the 238-acre project off the ground for a decade despite opposition from local conservationists and politicians.

The project has been stalled in recent months because the developer has not paid $376,000 to complete the environmental impact report, said City Attorney Scott Howard Scott Howard sings baritone with the Southern Gospel Quartet Legacy Five. .

The development company also filed a lawsuit against the city last month, listing 12 complaints including breach of contract and fraud, Howard said.

Howard called the lawsuit ``completely without merit,'' but said the city would like to take the next step in finishing the draft EIR EIR n. popular acronym for environmental impact report, required by many states as part of the application to a county or city for approval of a land development or project. Once a final EIR is complete, the project would go before the Planning Commission Noun 1. planning commission - a commission delegated to propose plans for future activities and developments
