O2 Launches DoCoMo's i-mode in Ireland.Tokyo, Japan, Oct 7, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - NTT DoCoMo announced October 6 that O2 will launch DoCoMo's i-mode service in Ireland effectively October 7th. The service, which will be offered over O2's W-CDMA See WCDMA. and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations. networks, marks the fourteenth global market for DoCoMo's i-mode mobile Internet service, following Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Australia, Israel, Russia and most recently the UK, where O2 launched a service on October 1. DoCoMo concluded an agreement in November 2004 to provide O2 with know-how, technologies and patents necessary to launch the i-mode service. DoCoMo will continue to work with international partners to introduce i-mode services in other markets worldwide.
