AlzheimAlert(TM) is Nymox's patented state of the art aid to the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. The test detects high levels of a brain protein (neural thread protein or NTP (Network Time Protocol) A TCP/IP protocol used to synchronize the real time clock in computers, network devices and other electronic equipment that is time sensitive. It is also used to maintain the correct time in NTP-based wall and desk clocks. ) known to be elevated in the urine of patients with Alzheimer's disease. The test is available to physicians nationally through the company's Clinical Reference Laboratory in New Jersey at a cost of $295.

The first report is in the new issue of the highly regarded peer-reviewed journal, Alzheimer's Reports, and concerns the results of a successful double-blind study involving Alzheimer's disease patients and normal controls totaling 140 participants from five institutions. The study was co-authored by Dr. Suzanna Levy of Mount Sinai School of Medicine

The second new clinical trial study will appear soon in a different peer-reviewed medical journal and documents the results of another significant and successful double-blind clinical trial which involved 122 cases from 102 individual physicians throughout the United States. These reports follow the recent publication of a new study from Brown University in the Journal of Neuropathology neuropathology /neu·ro·pa·thol·o·gy/ (-pah-thol´ah-je) pathology of diseases of the nervous system.

and Experimental Neurology (February, 2001; 60: 195-207) which provided new evidence linking increased production of NTP to neuronal cell death found in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease.

Dr. Michael Munzar, Medical Director of Nymox, said, "These publications confirm how useful this unique accurate non-invasive test can be for physicians faced with the daunting daunt

task of diagnosing Alzheimer's disease. Now that increasingly helpful treatments for this fatal illness are available, early diagnosis is more of paramount importance for the optimal care of patients with Alzheimer's."

There is an extensive scientific literature in the past decade linking NTP to Alzheimer's disease and confirming its accuracy as a biochemical marker for the fatal illness. Recent publications in the peer-reviewed medical literature include the Journal of Clinical Investigation The Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI or J Clin Invest) is a leading biomedical journal, which is radically different from many of its peers in having a high impact factor (in 2006, 15.754) and offering all its contents entirely free.  (100:3093-3104, 1997), Journal of Contemporary Neurology (June 1998), Journal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis (12:285-288, 1998 and 12:223-226, 1998), Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology (55:1038-1050,1996 and 60:195-207; 2001), Neurology (54: 1498-1504, 2000 and 55: 1068, 2000), and Alzheimer's Reports (2:327-332, 1999; and 3:155-159,2000).

Nymox has several major proprietary drug development programs with candidate drugs for Alzheimer's disease and other indications. In the area of Alzheimer's disease, Nymox has made a number of key discoveries about the link between spherons and Alzheimer's disease which have led to the development of spheron-based potential therapeutics for this fatal disease. Another Nymox major drug discovery platform targets neural thread protein, the brain protein detected by Nymox's AlzheimAlert(TM) test and implicated im·pli·cate

and strep infections. The Company's R&D pharmaceutical pipeline also includes candidate drugs for other indications in development. Nymox's second proprietary marketed product, NicAlert(TM), is available in the U.S. and Japan. NicAlert(TM) is an inexpensive, simple-to-use test strip that uses urine or saliva to determine whether a person is using tobacco products. It is currently being used in research programs into tobacco use and exposure across the U.S. and marketed as a test to determine whether a person, such as a teenager, student athlete or insurance applicant, is using a tobacco product.
