Nurse to staff mobile bus service in Taranaki.


Nurse-led clinical services will soon be a reality in Taranaki, thanks to a mobile health bus, launched Late last month by Associate Health Minister Mita Ririnui.

The mobile service is an initiative of Hauora Taranaki Primary Health Organisation Primary Health Organisations (PHOs), in New Zealand, are a collection of health providers, which are funded on a capitation basis by the New Zealand Government via its District Health Board.  (PHO). It has two consulting rooms consulting rooms

 and will be offering lifestyle intervention programmes and other nurse-led services.

The bus will be staffed by experienced registered nurse Mike Reid. Together with a bus driver/project coordinator, the team will provide a range of health support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  including a visiting dietitian dietitian /di·e·ti·tian/ (di?e-tish´in) one skilled in the use of diet in health and disease.

. Staff will also work alongside GP and Maori health providers to support and enhance health services locally.

The new service will be accessible to all people, regardless of PHO affiliation. Key target areas will be those patients at risk of or suffering from any disease that requires lifestyle modification and/or intervention. Services will be free, though gold coin donations will be welcomed.
