Nufern Launches Two New Fibers into Its Family of High Power Ytterbium-Doped Triple Clad Products.

EAST GRANBY, Conn. -- Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of fiber intensive sub-assemblies and specialty optical fibers, announced today the expansion of their ytterbium-doped triple clad fiber product line.

Nufern's new PM-YTF- 5/105/125 and PLMA-YTF-30/300/330 offer geometries and properties that compliment the previously released PLMA-YTF-20/300/330 and LMA-YTF-22/400/480 triple clad fibers. Designed with the PANDA stress structure, these polarization polarization

maintaining ytterbium-doped fibers introduce an additional layer of glass around the second or "pump cladding The plastic or glass sheath that is fused to and surrounds the core of an optical fiber. The cladding's mirror-like coating keeps the light waves reflected inside the core. The cladding is covered with a protective outer jacket. See fiber optics glossary. " to contain pump light.

Using this "glass-on-glass" construction enables higher temperature operation and allows for easier splicing splicing /splic·ing/ (spli´sing)

The hard outer cladding allows for the use of standard ferrule A ceramic, plastic or stainless steel part of a fiber-optic plug that holds the end of the fiber and precisely aligns it to the socket. The fiber is inserted into the ferrule and cemented with an epoxy or adhesive, which gives it long-term mechanical strength and prevents contamination  assemblies which enables precise alignment of the injected in·ject·ed

"These new additions to our family of triple clad fibers offer our customers a wider range of fiber geometries from which to choose," said Bryce Samson, Vice President of Business Development. "The combination of the triple clad structure and large mode area technology allow our customers enhanced reliability and performance in the design of high power fiber lasers and amplifiers."

About Nufern

Nufern designs, manufactures, sells and supports fiber intensive sub-assemblies and specialty optical fibers for a diverse range of industries. From its production, research and development facility in East Granby, Conn., USA, Nufern works from its core competencies A core competency is something that a firm can do well and that meets the following three conditions specified by Hamel and Prahalad (1990):
  1. It provides customer benefits
  2. It is hard for competitors to imitate
  3. It can be leveraged widely to many products and markets.
in optical fiber design and integration to offer a wide array of standard fiber laser sub-assemblies, fiber amplifier sub-assemblies and specialty fibers. Nufern's integrated team works closely with customers to provide rapid and cost-effective sub-assembly and fiber design services.
