Nucleating agent approved for PE food packaging.A "hyper-nucleating" agent designed for polyethylene blown film was recently granted broad food-contact approval by the FDA FDAabbr. Food and Drug Administration FDA, n.pr See Food and Drug Administration. FDA, n.pr the abbreviation for the Food and Drug Administration. . Launched a year ago by Milliken Chemical, Spartanburg, S.C., Hyperform HPN-20E reportedly cuts haze by 40% in LLDPE LLDPE Linear Low Density Polyethylene and increases gloss by 100%. It is said to be a simpler, better alternative to blending with LDPE LDPE abbr. low-density polyethylene because it enhances optics without sacrificing tear and impact strength. HPN-20E reportedly also can enhance the moisture barrier of HDPE and LLDPE. Trials have shown 40% lower moisture transmission in LLDPE. Milliken has installed a new monolayer blown film line at its applications lab. The company also wants to investigate use of nucleation nu·cle·a·tion n. 1.
