Nuance 8.0 Speech Recognition Software Provides Voice-Activated

Dialing for Pegaso PCS' 1,000,000 Users

Nuance (Nasdaq:NUAN), the global leader in software for a voice-driven world, today announced that Pegaso PCS, Mexico's leading wireless carrier, has launched a voice-activated dialing (VAD) application, Sistema de Voz Pegaso, for its 1,000,000 users. The application, Parlanta VAD, developed by NETCOM and powered by Nuance's flagship speech recognition software, Nuance 8.0, eliminates the need to dial phone numbers. Callers can simply speak the name or the phone number of the person they want to call and Sistema de Voz Pegaso completes the connection.

Pegaso PCS selected Nuance 8.0 because of the accuracy, reliability and scalability of the software. In addition, Pegaso PCS worked with Nuance partner NETCOM because of its voice integration and interface design experience. NETCOM created two personas -- or voice personalities -- for Sistema de Voz Pegaso. The first persona is a formal female voice and is targeted at corporate users, and a second more in-formal, friendly female persona is targeted at general consumers. The capabilities of Nuance's speech recognition software coupled with the personas created by NETCOM create a seamless user experience and will drive consumer adoption and repeat usage.
