In recognition of 60 years of blaring innovation and dedication, the Recording Academy will give the Technical Grammy Award The Grammy Awards (originally called the Gramophone Awards) are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States for outstanding achievements in the record industry. Previous recipients of the honor, which was first given out in 1995 and is presented by vote of the Recording Academy's National Trustees for significant contributions to the field, include Apple Computer and Sony/Philips.

"It's really a big deal. We're very excited about it," said Mark Terry, president of JBL, adding that JBL is the first speaker company to receive the award.

JBL was first founded in 1946 and provided speakers for almost any public event with music, said Terry, up to and including President Bush's second inauguration INAUGURATION. This word was applied by the Romans to the ceremony of dedicating some temple, or raising some man to the priesthood, after the augurs had been consulted. It was afterwards applied to the installation (q.v. .
