--Novashunt, Inc. has announced that it will be presenting at 4:15 PM at Medtech Insight's Prestigious "Investment In Innovation (In3): A Preview of Early-Stage Medical Technology Companies" Conference, taking place February 10-11, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Irvine in Irvine, California.

Novashunt, Inc., an early-stage medical device company that designs, develops and markets proprietary, implantable automated fluid management systems to move fluids around inside the body, will be presenting it's technology at Medtech Insight's "Investment in Innovation (In3): A Preview of Early-stage Medical Technology Companies" conference, February 10, 2005.

Novashunt's initial product line focuses on the removal of excess fluid accumulation in the abdominal (peritoneal) cavity caused by cirrhosis of the liver and other diseases such as heart failure, cancer, renal failure, tuberculosis and pancreatic disease. Novashunt has developed an implantable, battery-powered pump that automatically moves this excess fluid, called ascites, from the peritoneal cavity to the bladder for elimination through normal urination. The pump system is controlled by data from pressure sensors and a unique pumping algorithm which can be externally configured by a physician. The product will be available for clinical testing in early 2005. Novashunt plans to use this patented core-technology to expand its offering to other fluid management conditions in the future.

Excess fluid build-up in the peritoneal cavity, called Ascites, affects more than 1.2 million people in the United States and more than 20 million people worldwide. Novashunt's pump will be targeted at patients who cannot be adequately treated with pharmaceutical therapy. These refractory ascites patients represent a large market with an unmet clinical need. Typically, these patients require repeated paracentesis drainage in a hospital setting or more invasive procedures such as a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement at significant costs and high complication rates. Novahunt's implantable pump system can dramatically improve patients' quality of life while significantly reducing medical costs associated with treating such patients.
