Novartis Pharma to Spin off Its Nutrition Business in January.


Tokyo Tokyo (tō`kēō), city (1990 pop. 8,163,573), capital of Japan and of Tokyo prefecture, E central Honshu, at the head of Tokyo Bay. , Japan, Oct 28, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Novartis Novartis International AG (NYSE: NVS) is a multinational pharmaceutical company based in Basel, Switzerland that manufactures drugs such as diclofenac (Voltaren), carbamazepine (Tegretol), valsartan (Diovan), imatinib mesylate (Gleevec / Glivec), cyclosporin A (Neoral /  Pharma will spin off its nutrition business into a separate company as of January 1, 2006. The new company, Novartis Nutirition K.K., will be wholly owned by Novartis Holdings Japan, and manufacture and sell nutritional products for medical institutions and nursing-care facilities.

With the move, Novartis aims to increase its presence in the ethical nutrition market in Japan. Over the past 15 years, Novartis has been offering the medical nutrition products, including its ISOCAL series, to 8,000 medical institutions and facilities nationwide.
