Nova to close PS plant.
Nova Chemicals NOVA Chemicals is a leading chemical company jointly headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, suburb of Moon Township. It was founded in 1954. The corporation's chemical assets are divided into two divisions: Olefins/Polyolefins and Styrenics. Corp., Pittsburgh Pittsburgh (pĭts`bərg), city (1990 pop. 369,879), seat of Allegheny co., SW Pa., at the confluence of the Allegheny and the Monongahela rivers, which there form the Ohio River; inc. 1816. , plans to close its Chesapeake, Va., polystyrene polystyrene (pŏl'ēstī`rēn), widely used plastic; it is a polymer of styrene. Polystyrene is a colorless, transparent thermoplastic that softens slightly above 100°C; (212°F;) and becomes a viscous liquid at around 185°C; plant this year. The plant can produce 300 million lb/yr of solid PS and can compound 170 million lb/yr. Nova will also close its Chesapeake Technology Center and consolidate its U.S. Styrenics Technology organization in Monaca, Pa.
