 Power Inc. expressed his sympathies today on the unexpected death of J. Gerald Godsoe, Q.C.

Mr. Godsoe was appointed Nova Scotia Power's President and Chief Executive Officer at a Board meeting following the Company's Annual General Meeting on April 3, 1996. Mr. Godsoe died shortly after 1 pm today as a result of a lung infection and pneumonia. Mr. Godsoe had earlier been diagnosed with a curable cur·a·ble

 form of leukaemia and died of complications following the successful completion of chemotherapy to treat the leukaemia.

"My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out on this tragic day to Gerry's wife and family," said Mr. Oland. "I am utterly saddened and shocked by this turn of events. We had every reason to hope and believe that Gerry would recover fully from his illness."

Mr. Oland went on to say that the Board of Directors would meet soon to determine a course of action with respect to the President and Chief Executive Officer position at Nova Scotia Power Inc.
