Gas flaring, an expensive waste: if someone, today, were to stare down on Nigeria from space they would notice an array of dazzling yellow lights. This man-made aurora borealis is the consequence of oil companies wastefully burning off natural gas in the process of extracting crude oil, a process known as "gas flaring".
