 or purchased by the German occupying forces were brought back to the Netherlands. These works came into the custody of the State of the Netherlands and formed the "NK collection" (named after the SNK SNK Shin Nihon Kikaku (Japanese: New Japan Product; video game manufacturer)

Since 2001, the Netherlands has pursued a liberalized restitution In the context of Criminal Law, state programs under which an offender is required, as a condition of his or her sentence, to repay money or donate services to the victim or society; with respect to maritime law, the restoration of articles lost by jettison, done when the  policy for cultural objects from the NK collection that, as a result of the Second World War, were involuntarily in·vol·un·tar·y

The Restitutions Committee (Adviescommissie restitutieverzoeken cultuurgoederen en Tweede Wereldoorlog) advises the State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science on individual applications for the post-war restitution of cultural objects that are currently in the custody of the State of the Netherlands.

Under the liberalized restitution policy, written applications for restitution may be submitted no later than 4 April 2007. Please send your application (including the grounds for your request) to the:
