Beginning this month, all peer-reviewed articles will be published online within 24 hours of acceptance. This system is patterned after the one used by the Journal of Biological Chemistry The Journal of Biological Chemistry (often abbreviated JBC) is a scientific journal founded in 1905 and published since 1925 by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. . These EHP-in-Press articles consist of the manuscript form of research papers that have been subn6tted, peer-reviewed, revised, and accepted. The only thing that is different between the print version and the EHP-in-Press version is that the EHP-in-Press version has not been copyedited or formatted to EHP style. This innovation was made possible by the development of the digital object identifier
A digital object identifier (or DOI) is a permanent identifier given to a document, which is not related to its current location. (DOI (Digital Object Identifier) A method of applying a persistent name to documents, publications and other resources on the Internet rather than using a URL, which can change over time. ) system managed by CrossRef, a licensee licensee n. a person given a license by government or under private agreement. The DOI system is like a digital switchboard, enabling the researcher to dick on a reference citation in a journal and immediately access the cited articles. An EHP-in-Press article is complete citable using an assigned DOI code for the paper. The DOI code allows the article to be immediately referenced and will establish publication priority. The date we post the article on ehpOnline will be considered the publication date of record. Once assigned, the DOI code remains with the article regardless of its form. EHP-in-Press articles will eventually move into the print issue of EHP as space permits. We know that scientific gains are made both by small steps and big leaps. The same holds true for scientific publishing. We invite you to come with us as we take our next big leap. Thomas J. Goehl Editor-in-Chief, EHP |
