Williams announced that the Population Council, a not-for-profit humanitarian organization, has renewed its lease for 10 years at One Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.

The Council, which was an original tenant at the building (located at 885 Second Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets) consolidated its space on the entire 9th and 10th floors, comprising 45,240 s/f in the 50-story, 785,000 s/f building.

The renewal followed an organizational decision to station more Council staff in field offices in the 70 countries in which it operates. GVA Williams assisted The Council in conducting an exhaustive search throughout the five boroughs of New York City New York City: see New York, city.

As part of its strategic plan, The Population Council subleased 22,600 square feet--the entire 8th floor--for 8 1/2 years to Williams Lea, a UK-based business process outsourcing Business process outsourcing (BPO) is the contracting of a specific business task, such as payroll, to a third-party service provider. Usually, BPO is implemented as a cost-saving measure for tasks that a company requires but does not depend upon to maintain its position in  provider and specialist in corporate information solutions. Robert Tunis, senior executive managing director, and Diana Gaines, senior director, of GVA Williams represent The Population Council. Tower Plaza Associates, the building's owner, was represented in-house by Jonathan Mayblum. Williams Lea was represented in the sublease by Lindsay Ornstein of Staubach.

"With its central location and proximity to the United Nations, One Dag Hammarskjold Plaza offered a unique opportunity to The Population Council, which benefits from being located near the epicenter of the international community," said Tunis.

"Furthermore, renewing in this building was a fiscally prudent choice considering that the space was easily modified to meet the changing demands of the organization."
