Norwood Systems Joins PAN Working Group of the Bluetooth SIG; Selected to Help Develop Next Bluetooth Specification.

Norwood Systems, the provider of office networks for the wireless generation, has been accepted by the PAN (Personal Area Networking) Working Group to help develop the next version of the Bluetooth specification.

The working group's Charter is to define how Bluetooth devices will form IP networks. In July of 1999, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is the body that oversees the development of Bluetooth standards and the licensing of the Bluetooth technologies and trademarks to manufacturers.  (SIG) released the Bluetooth 1.0 specification.

The announcement comes shortly after Norwood Systems' Bluetooth-based application EnterpriseMobility(TM) was named the Grand Prize Winner of the Innovative New Product Award at the recent COMNET COMNET - A simulation tool from CACI for analysing wide-area voice or data networks, based on SIMSCRIPT.  2001 exhibition in Washington, D.C.

The new PAN Profile will be the specification containing the information required to ensure that diverse devices supporting the Bluetooth wireless technology can communicate with each other worldwide. The new networking specification will enable Bluetooth mobile ad-hoc IP networks for data, voice, video, and other forms of communications.

The SIG comprises a group of companies, led by telecommunications and computing computing - computer  industry leaders, working together to define and promote an open, royalty-free specification for seamless wireless connectivity and cable replacement for a wide variety of mobility-enhancing devices.
