Norway plans facility to capture carbon emissions.

Norge, officially Kingdom of Norway, constitutional monarchy (2005 est. pop. 4,593,000), 125,181 sq mi (324,219 sq km), N Europe, occupying the western part of the Scandinavian peninsula.  has announced it will finance a project to capture and store carbon dioxide carbon dioxide, chemical compound, CO2, a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is about one and one-half times as dense as air under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure.  emissions. Energy industry officials have sought state help in cutting financial and legal barriers blocking C[O.sub.2] storage. Norway's left-center government will carry out the project with oil company Statoil, Reuter's News Service reports.

The plan would create a technology company to capture and store C[O.sub.2] in Mongstad, where Statoil plans to build a gas-fired power plant to feed its nearby refinery. The state would initially own 80 percent of the company, Reuters Reuters
