Northwest Division.

Northwest Division MTNA Competitions were held in Missoula, Montana, January 16-18, 2004. Presidents from each state in the division attended a state presidents' meeting and helped at the competitions wherever needed. The division competitions require many volunteers from the local association, and the efforts of these people, together with the division chair, coordinators and state presidents, are greatly appreciated.

Washington State MTA has announced an exciting new membership drive incentive. The local association with the highest percentage of increase in membership by April 15, 2004, will receive $300 to be applied toward a workshop or master class. WSMTA also has the Caroline Allen grant available to teachers working toward national certification. The grant is used to help pay for workshops, materials and tests. During the fiscal year 2002-2003, sixteen WSMTA teachers successfully completed the national certification process.

Wyoming music teachers in Cheyenne planned a pianofest, which was held in November. Students performed for a judge, and some of the advanced students were featured in a master class.

This issue of AMT features information about the upcoming MTNA National Conference in Kansas City, March 27-31, 2004. This event promises to be full of stimulating educational sessions in music literature, performance, pedagogy, technology, exciting concerts, master classes and the national finals of MTNA performance competitions. It is a wonderful opportunity to expand your teaching horizons.
