MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Northrop Grumman has cross-certified its secure public key infrastructure (PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) A framework for creating a secure method for exchanging information based on public key cryptography. The foundation of a PKI is the certificate authority (CA), which issues digital certificates that authenticate the identity of ) system with the CertiPath PKI bridge. CertiPath is a partnership of ARINC/Exostar/SITA, and is dedicated to providing the aerospace and defense (A&D) industry with a trusted mechanism to use digital (PKI) credentials globally. In a formal ceremony at VeriSign's headquarters in Mountain View, CA, CertiPath issued its PKI Cross-Certificate to Northrop Grumman. The ceremony follows approximately six months of policy, procedure and infrastructure development.

Cross-certification with CertiPath constitutes a key milestone for Northrop Grumman, which streamlined multiple policies and security procedures in order to meet the CertiPath policies for cross-certification. The CertiPath policies are modeled after U.S. government and other similar certificate policies.

This credentialing will eliminate the need for Northrop Grumman employees to have multiple digital credentials, reducing costs and risks to the company.
