Northrop's earnings increase but Rockwell's plummet

 Corp. improved but income at Rockwell International Rockwell International was the ultimate incarnation of a series of companies under the sphere of influence of Willard Rockwell, who had made his fortune after the invention and successful launch of a new bearing system for truck axles in 1919.  Corp. in El Segundo El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and  dropped, the companies said in quarterly statements released last week.

Northrop said it had net income of $36.2 million for the second quarter, compared to $29.3 million a year earlier. Earnings per share rose to 77 cents from 63 cents while revenue totaled $1.33 billion, down 6 percent from the prior year.
