Northfield growth spurt.


Northfield Northfield, city (1990 pop. 14,684), Rice co., SE Minn., near Minneapolis–St. Paul, on the Cannon River; inc. 1875. It is the trade center for a dairy and farming region. Manufactures include printed circuit boards, toys, feeds and seeds, and cereals. On Sept.  Savings Bank savings bank, financial institution that, until recently, performed only the following functions: receiving savings deposits of individuals, investing them, and providing a modest return to its depositors in the form of interest. , Staten Island's only mutually-owned savings bank, reported quarterly earnings of $4.2 million, an increase of nearly 15% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2003. Northfield's earnings of $8.3 million for the first half of 2004 are more than 16% higher when compared to the same period in 2003.

Northfield also reported that total deposits rose to $1.038 billion. Of that number, nearly $779 million represent deposits in Staten Island Staten Island (1990 pop. 378,977), 59 sq mi (160 sq km), SE N.Y., in New York Bay, SW of Manhattan, forming Richmond co. of New York state and the borough of Staten Island of New York City.  branch locations, a $54 million increase when compared to the same period in 2003. In addition, total assets at the end of the 2nd quarter were $1.496 billion. John Alexander, Northfield's Chairman of the Board stated, "Northfield is making a name for itself as a community-based savings institution.

"While Northfield is perhaps no longer a small bank, we have been able to offer the responsiveness needed by both commercial and residential borrowers who want to know promptly that their loan has been approved."
