Northern Telecom Offers Consumers New Enhancements to Caller ID Family of Home Office and Residential Products.

If the calling number is not blocked, the calling number is displayed on the handset or base station of the called party.  technology, today unveiled several new additions to its extensive Caller ID product line at the annual Winter Consumer Electronics Show.

The new Maestro (1) (Maestro NT) An earlier name for scheduling software for Windows NT from Tivoli Systems, Inc. When IBM acquired Tivoli in 1996, the program was renamed IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler.  1500, 2500 and 3500, Caller ID residential and home office telephones, combine Caller ID with easy-to-use phone services and advanced features. Also on display is the M9516, the first Caller ID telephone with a built-in digital answering machine.

In response to market demand for integrated Caller ID telephones, Northern Telecom has expanded its traditional Maestro Caller ID product line to include the Maestro 1500, 2500 and 3500. In addition to showing the caller's name and number before the call is answered, these new Maestros telephones feature one button access to services such as Voice Mail, Call Return, Repeat Dial, Three Way Calling, and other popular features offered by phone companies. The Maestro 1500, with a 10 name/number Call Log, carries a suggested retail price of $US109. The Maestro 2500, with a 30 name/number Call Log and backlit An LCD screen that has its own light source from the back of the screen, making the background brighter and characters appear sharper.  display, has a suggested retail price of $US149. Northern Telecom's Meridian Meridian (mərĭd`ēən), city (1990 pop. 41,036), seat of Lauderdale co., E Miss., near the Ala. line; settled 1831, inc. 1860.  9516 is the first Caller ID telephone with a built-in tapeless, digital answering machine. The M9516 functions as a personal assistant -- it tells who is calling by announcing the names of incoming callers, keeps a record of calls and allows users to choose the messages they want to hear first. It even allows users to leave personalized per·son·al·ize

Th M9516 allows callers to create up to nine distinct mailboxes, each with its own greeting, allowing users to organize personal and business messages, or assign a mailbox A simulated mailbox in the computer that holds e-mail messages. Mailboxes are stored on disk as a file of messages, a database of messages or as an individual file for each message. The standard mailboxes are usually In, Out, Trash and Junk (Spam).  for each family member or business associate. In addition, users can create up to 75 personalized greetings for 75 family members, friends and business associates, making dialing as simple as the touch of a button.

Northern Telecom's M9516 also offers distinctive features such as an Auto Attendant The part of an interactive voice response (IVR) system that replaces the human operator and directs callers to the appropriate extensions or voice mailboxes. See IVR.  feature which allows callers to receive information, leave a message or speak to someone, all at the touch of a button. The M9516 includes a Caller ID display with a 75 name/number Call Log, speakerphone, and fax switch which functions with a Distinctive Ringing service. The M9516 retails for $US269.95.

Northern Telecom has also combined Caller ID with mobility. The Maestro 4500CT and 4600CT are the first cordless phones A wireless telephone that transmits to and receives signals from a base station within a range of a few hundred feet. Cordless phones are for local use and cannot travel long distances as can cellphones and satellite phones. See DECT and multihandset cordless.  to put users in control of their communications by coupling the flexibility and mobility of cordless technology with the call management benefits of Caller ID. With the display feature in the handset, users can see the name or number of who is calling, view the call log, or return calls without returning to the telephone base. The Maestro 4500CT and 4600CT phones carry a suggested retail price of $US229.95 and 255.95 respectively.

An innovative member of Northern Telecom's Caller ID family, the PowerTouch screen-based modular telephone features a universal base that grows with consumers' needs by supporting new capabilities through simple plug-in modules. These modules determine the functionality of the set, from Caller ID and Call Waiting Display to electronic white and yellow pages and other advanced display services.

The PowerTouch 350 offers consumers convenient access to home banking, shopping, electronic directory assistance and other interactive services. The PowerTouch 350 module contains six soft keys, a 50 name/number directory and a 25 entry callers list. The customer list price for the phone is $US348 including the universal base. The PowerTouch 225 Name/Number module has a suggested retail price of $US200. The 250 Call Waiting Identification module has a suggested retail price of $US221.

Also included in Northern Telecom's Caller ID family, are the Meridian 9000 line of business sets and the Interlude interlude, development in the late 15th cent. of the English medieval morality play. Played between the acts of a long play, the interlude, treating intellectual rather than moral topics, often contained elements of satire or farce.  II, III and XT+ Caller ID adjunct units.
