Northern Power to Break Ground on New Facility for Company's Expansion; Company to Hold ``Tree Raising'' Event to Commemorate the Occasion.

WAITSFIELD, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 2002

Northern Power Systems, the leading provider of alternative energy systems, announced today that it is about to break ground on a new 28,000 square foot facility on a 7.2-acre land plot adjacent to the company's existing building at Mad River Park in Waitsfield. The new building will serve to foster further expansion of Northern headquarters, and will also expand the company's research and development facilities.

While details of the facility's construction are being finalized, the current plan includes technology for on-site power generation, which will incorporate solar power and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems for maximum energy efficiency.

The project is being funded by the Vermont Economic Development Association (VEDA), and facilitated by Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation (CVEDC) and will cost approximately $4 million. Upon completion of the construction, Northern will lease the property from the state of Vermont.
