Northern Power to Break Ground on New Facility for Company's Expansion; Company to Hold ``Tree Raising'' Event to Commemorate the Occasion.

WAITSFIELD, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 2002

Northern Power Systems, the leading provider of alternative energy systems, announced today that it is about to break ground on a new 28,000 square foot facility on a 7.2-acre land plot adjacent to the company's existing building at Mad River Park in Waitsfield. The new building will serve to foster further expansion of Northern headquarters, and will also expand the company's research and development facilities.

The project is being funded by the Vermont Vermont (vərmŏnt`) [Fr.,=green mountain], New England state of the NE United States. To celebrate this milestone in Northern's history, the company is hosting a Tree Raising event -- a new twist on the traditional groundbreaking ceremony. The Tree Raising will bring together members of the community, government officials, families and friends of Northern Power Systems to plant a tree at the site as a demonstration of Northern's environmental commitment.
