 and Andrew Hookland scored 14 points each and Brian Conklin came off the bench for 13 as North Eugene downed host Corvallis 63-55 in a nonleague boys basketball game Monday night.

Conklin, a freshman post, hit all seven of his free throws for North, which made 9-of-10 shots in the fourth period to seal the win.

The Highlanders, who held the Spartans scoreless for the first five minutes of the second period, took a 29-21 halftime lead and never trailed after that.

Harrison Harter scored 23 points to lead Corvallis.

Aaron Smucker scored a game-high 19 points, including an 18-footer to send the game into the first of two overtimes, to lift Santiam Christian to a 50-45 nonleague victory over host Oakridge.

Girls basketball

Cassidy Langendoerfer had 14 points and five rebounds and Denee Johnson had nine rebounds to go with six points as North Eugene fell to Corvallis 48-47 in a nonleague girls basketball game at North Eugene.

The Highlanders tied the game at 45 with 1:30 left in the game, but Corvallis' Inbar Heyman scored on a layup to put the Spartans ahead for good. Heyman finished with 14 points.

Corvallis outshot North Eugene 45 percent (18-of-40) to 28 percent (16-of-56).

Oakridge sophomore Orie Gamez had 12 points and four steals as the Warriors

 rallied in the fourth quarter to beat visiting Santiam Christian 34-32 in a nonleague game at Oakridge.

Stephanie Cossette added eight points for Oakridge. The Warriors had 10 steals, pulled down 29 rebounds and had just nine turnovers.

Katie Roshart had 10 points to lead the Eagles.

Girls swimming

Marsha Malcolm, Michelle Bauer and Sarah Boam each won two individual events and combined to swim on North Eugene's two winning relays to lead the Highlanders to a 90-80 victory over Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley,  in a nonleague dual meet at River Road Pool.

Sophomore Amanda Fitzgerald won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, and teammate Sarah Harsey took first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 100 butterfly butterfly, any of a large group of insects found throughout most of the world; with the moths, they comprise the order Lepidoptera. There are about 12 families of butterflies. Most adult moths and butterflies feed on nectar sucked from flowers.  as Creswell opened its inaugural swim season.

The Bulldogs, whose first swim team is made up of three girls and two boys, lost 120-22 to Junction City in the nonleague dual meet at River Road Pool. Darci Spillman, who competed on two relays, was a double winner for Junction City.

Ian Harsey edged Junction City's J.J. McCool in the 100 backstroke and finished second to McCool in the 50 freestyle for Creswell in a 113-10 loss to Junction City in a boys nonleague meet at River Road Pool.

McCool and Jerry Diamond, who won the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle races, also competed on two of the Tigers' winning relays. Cody Bigger added victories in the 100 and 200 freestyle events.
