North Carolina County starts unique child-care credential program.

CATAWBA, N.C. -- A child-care health and safety credential credential verb To determine or verify titles, qualifications, documents, completion of required training, and continuing education, in those persons who function in a professional or official capacity–eg, ER physician, neurosurgeon, etc. Cf Credentials.  program, the first of its kind in the state, is helping local child-care centers deliver the highest-quality child-care possible, say officials of the Catawba Valley Public Health Department.

The Child Care Health and Safety Credential is a project led by the Catawba County Board of Health and the nursing staff of the Catawba County Health Department's Early Childhood Support Team. The credential is given to child-care centers that have met best-practice standards in safety, education and environmental health.

The program is in its third year and is funded by Smart Start, a public-private partnership Public-private partnership (PPP) describes a government service or private business venture which is funded and operated through a partnership of government and one or more private sector companies. These schemes are sometimes referred to as PPP or P3.  that provides funding for organizations and programs that provide services to children up to age 5.
