North American completes Gaia acquisition.Technologies Group Inc., (NASDAQ NASDAQ in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on : "NATK NATK Night Attack ") announced Wednesday that it completed the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Gaia Holdings Inc. and certain of its affiliates. The purchased assets include proprietary technologies and patents relating to the combination of rubber from used automobile tires and recycled plastics for the manufacture of a variety of existing and proposed products including porous pipe (used in commercial irrigation irrigation, in agriculture, artificial watering of the land. In addition, Gaia recently completed its first production of approximately 400 commercial-grade synthetic railroad crossties using a continuous extrusion process. A portion of these crossties are being shipped to Union Pacific Railroad Union Pacific Railroad, transportation company chartered (1862) by Congress to build part of the nation's first transcontinental railroad line. Under terms of the Pacific Railroads Act, the Union Pacific was authorized to build a line westward from Omaha, Nebr. for further evaluation. The newly-acquired business will be operated under Gaia Technologies Inc., a newly formed Texas subsidiary of NATK. As part of the transactions, Henry W. Sullivan will serve as president, and Aldrich will serve as an executive officer of Gaia Technologies Inc. Aldrich will also be appointed as a director of NATK in the first half of 1996. In making this announcement, Tim B. Tarrillion, NATK's president and chief executive officer, stated, "We believe Gaia's core technologies are innovative, unique and very exciting in that they permit the manufacture of a wide range of durable, environmentally-beneficial products at competitive production costs. "These products are manufactured using mostly recycled wastes as raw materials, have attractive product performance characteristics and can be produced at very competitive prices. We believe the prospects for continued growth of existing products and the continued development of new products using these technologies are very strong." Tarrillion added, "The acquisition of Gaia's business lines and technologies represents another step in NATK's strategy of acquiring new companies and technologies that offer proprietary products and services with substantial growth potential. Given the current demand for its products, we believe the Gaia businesses will make a significant contribution to NATK's goals for growth and profitability in 1996." NATK is focused on developing and commercializing new and innovative technologies that can generate true economic value for the environmental and natural resources industries.
