 solutions, today announced that Norstan Communications, Inc. was chosen by Dakota Gasification Company The Dakota Gasification Company started in 1984 in Beulah, North Dakota with the Great Plains Synfuels Plant. The plant uses lignite coal to make synthetic natural gas. The synthetic natural gas is piped to the Northern Border Pipeline which supplies homes and businesses in the , a subsidiary of Basin Electric, to design and install an upgraded Siemens solutions using the Hicom 300 Model 80. The installation is designed to increase efficiencies, reduce maintenance costs and eliminate toll calls between facilities.

Driven by the stated desire to reduce technology redundancy between Basin Electric and Dakota Gasification, Norstan focused their telecommunication solution on leveraging current systems and application sharing. The upgraded system allows Dakota Gasification employees many business efficiencies, such as the Siemens PhoneMail system, call detail recording features and 4 digit dialing between locations.
